ANA Intercontinental Tokyo
 

I'm scheduled for a week long trip to Tokyo at the end of the month. Right now I'm booked at the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo. I ran a search and couldn't find any information on the hotel. Can anyone tell me whether this a good or bad choice? This will be my first trip to Tokyo or Japan, so I have no knowledge of the city.

Isn't this the one that regularly pops up on Priceline for Tokyo when you select the region it is in?

Without knowing what's important to you, it's hard to address whether it's good choice for you. Some FTers stayed there a few months back, for a great deal through Priority Points. For me, it was a delightful change of pace to have a big room and a private bath. What it lacked, for me, was the "getting real" quality that I get in big doses at the Juyoh Hotel, in shitamachi.

I have never stayed there but really like the location. An extrance to Tameike-Sanno subway station is almost right in front of the hotel. This allows access to Namboku and Ginza lines. In addition, you are not far from stations for Marunouchi and Chiyoda lines. It is an easy walk to Roppongi if you desire. It is first stop into town on Limousine Bus and last stop out making trip to and from airport easy and fast.

Google consistently does better than Flyertalk's search engine for me.

The ANA does have an awesome location... it's close to EVERYTHING that's relevant in Tokyo. Most convenient if you have business in the Ark Mori, Sanno Park Tower, Izumi Garden or one of the other nearby office buildings, but it's also within walking distance of the government complex, the Roppongi nightlife district, and even Ginza if you have strong legs (alternatively, ride the subway 3 stops).

The other good hotels in the area (Okura, Akasaka Prince and New Otani) are way more expensive so ANA is quite a good deal, all things considered.

What kind of room have you got at the ANA? It makes all the difference here as standard rooms on lower floors have basic, uninviting bathrooms whereas those with premium rooms are rather nice.

Locationwise the hotel is fine.

It can be tricky to find info on this hotel because of the 3 letter name, but there are a few reviews (including mine) on the IC Hotels forum

The club lounge at ANA is excellent and serves a decent breakfast (you can dine in the main buffet if you go before 7:30am), afternoon cakes and scones and a European cheese board (an expensive food in Tokyo) and some canapes with champagne and cocktails in the evening.

Location suits most visitors and is perfect for some of them. I'm not a fan of the area, but still found it to be a convenient spot with good transport links.

From the Club lounge and a third of the rooms there is a view of Roppongi Dori PHOTO - It's often used in time lapse photography as a seminal image of night time Tokyo. If you don't already recognise it, eventually you'll find yourself spotting it from Tokyo montages.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I've little say over the room since I'm travelling on govt business. My secretary made the reservation but I could cancel and have the embassy rebook in hopes that they'll treat me a little better at check in. Otherwise, I'm stuck with what I'm given.

I've stayed at this hotel. It's a nice place, and as others have pointed out, it's in a good location. It's an easy walk to Roppongi from there.

Sorry Sunnyhere, it is very, very unlikely that you would have been. Executive floors only (we were there solely through the generous goodwill of a kind and patient FTer).

Our stay here was perfectly timed for us - MrLapLap went off to work in Ginza whilst I (who at the time couldn't go very far by myself) got to 'keep it real' with the absolutely charming lounge lady who'd lived in Spain and South America. She was lovely!

For hotel 'previews' I always use Tripadvisor (www.tripadvisor.com).
Most Tripadvisor reviews appear to be quite positive of the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo. Maybe a bit 'impersonal', but good quality - it appears.

Ive stayed there a number of times. Pretty friendly staff, great location, decent atmosphere. Some of the rooms have very nice views. Overall Im quite positive about it. it is very close to the US Embassy.
