I would agree - but I would add that if you arrive in Tokyo without prior preparation, then the concierges at the FS Marunouchi / Imperial / Park Hyatt and other top tier hotels are the people who will more than compensate for that omission.

Arranging train tickets and Tokyo tours is what concierges do in their sleep. If you want to wake them up with a challenge, then you should present them with Tokyorich's list of requests. (I think that a really top concierge could probably make a fist of items 2 through 5 on that list. Item 4 would be an out of town trip).

I agree that the house humour may strike newbies as cantankerous. We're developing a "culture" (rather like the yoghurt that I forgot to return to the fridge yesterday morning).

I believe RichardInSF has been and didn't rate it.

I've been with my kids and we all thought it was about the biggest waste of time in Tokyo. Overpriced too. Only one highlight: you get a 5 minute closeup magic show at your table. But is that worth Y5000 or so minimum per person? Because the food sure isn't!

I like the MO, personally, but you should check out the Luxury Hotels forum to get the full flavor of the food fight that BKK top hotels can engender.

The magic part is making the ¥¥¥¥¥ mysteriously disappear from your wallet. But at least the thieves have the decency to wear masks. ;)

Which is why I asked here........ I think it will be the MO with a view of the dark and turbulent waters. Old or new wing, unfortunately I can't afford the famous suite rooms, but would definitely want to be well situated within the hotel. What rooms have you stayed?

All of them. If ya can't go for the Author's Suites (definitely an experience), I'd say my favorite room type is the Stateroom in the River Wing. They are the x11 and x12 series low floor (I believe). Ask for them specifically, since there aren't that many of them.

Yea, I've been... wasn't blown away by it either. Had a great (100% vegitarian!) meal tonight at Gaya though, that's a true find of a restaurant.
