STEAK! please
OMG. I just read the Morton's thread and am dying for steak. I can't wait till I get back to the states.
What should I try this week? I am right at Tokyo station. Never had Kobe, but don't know prices. Thanks |
Somewhere near you:
It's a bit late for lunch now, so the prices will be considerably more than 1,800yen but Pickles made the following recommendation a couple of months ago:

Looks like the meat at Moritaya is "wagyu", so Japanese beef. It's not likely to all be from Kobe, but since as Americans we tend to use "Kobe" where Japanese would use "wagyu", it's fine.
Re: the menus at Moritaya, I'm going to take a stab and say that "Japanese cattle hitting" is tataki, which is basically tartare. Capital pickles are Kyoto pickles, which IMHO are the best ones around. "Fin" should be filet. Other than that, while it's computer translation, it's fairly clear. There's sukiyaki, shabu shabu, "oil-yaki", and steak. But I don't see the 1,800 lunch on their Japanese menu (there are places that like to hide the cheap ones, though). |
Wagyu, Schmagyu, there is plenty of good meat to be had in this town and I think I just figured out where we are headed on Thursday or Friday.

How about a Brazillian style place? "Barbacoa Grill" has an all-you-can eat deal which I've enjoyed in the past. Does wonders for your figure... not.
It's located quite close to Omotesando station - so it's not exactly in your part of town. But only a short subway ride away... http://www.tokyo.to/barbacoa/barbacoamap.html |
Two of the very places I had in mind gents.
Pickles, quality-wise do you rate Porterhouse? Also, a great fallback when needing red meat is YAki Nikku pretty much anywhere around town. And of late (post 4/25/03) the Oak Door is a good feed too. Mike |
