Normally, Narita Airport is very good with making sure that luggage comes out in the appropriate order. Also for other airline than JAL and ANA. Though admittedly, I have only arrived on other *A and OW carriers.
We landed, 4min later parked at gate, 3min to deplane from economy, 5min to get to immigration, 2min to get done with immigration, 3min to get bag and clear customs. The carousel wasn't even moving when I got there. When it started going, my bag was the first to come out! Anyways, I just landed in US on Delta, my bag was one of the last to come out.:o |

It is ghe terrible setup, where you can't use the kiosks while waiting for luggage. Like you can in Haneda. Also in Haneda, they try to process the Japanese passport holders before passport control with the integrated customs and immigration terminals. So the setup just flows easier.
I have tried to give feedback to Narita, the airport just replies that it is all in the hands of the customs office, and that is a different office than the one that runs Haneda, so they select different solutions. You need to go to the website in advance and register your information and then use the kiosk once you land. If you're traveling with family, they need to also use the kiosk (you can register for them), and the kiosk doesn't prompt you to have them also enter information. (they have to do it separately). |

well, I don't have a lot of recallable data points at NRT with priority tags. But I'm sure what you say is accurate. I was landing with Star Priority tags until several years ago, but it's only been this past year that I've reclaimed status that gives me priority tags. I think this is only my third time landing at NRT with Sky Priority tags... cannot remember how it went the first two times so it must've been a pretty unremarkable experience. I don't fly first class, so I was shocked to see my bag come out first.

There is two sides to success, the ground staff at the departing airport has to pack the luggage correctly, and the staff at the arriving airport have to care about the delivery. I have arrived at Narita on Scandinavian Airlines where it failed miserably, and each time a priority piece eventually came out the ANA ground staff came to apologise that the containers were packed wrongly in Copenhagen. On the other hand AA and United generally seem capable of packing the containers so the Narita ground staff can manage the delivery. SK have normally also had correct delivery in Narita, though never in Copenhagen.
The priority bag was literally first on the belt. The non priority bag came out about 15min later at Narita. |
