lol, you're probably right. But it was REALLY gloomy with crazy gray skies and we had our fill of Sakura this year already. If the weather was clear and offered views of the Zao Mountain Range in the background, we definitely would've opted for Sakura. We contemplated changing our return flight to an earlier departure but nothing was available.

I did not get to do much cherry blossom viewing this year, I have a hope that Sendai has a bit to offer tomorrow....

But a rather nice tree in Shinagawa I got to enjoy the days I went to the office.

That's an enormous tree. I don't think they grow so big in the USA. Very nice; it would be a reason to go to the office every day during this period, at least when the weather is good.

It is such a lovely tree. And from the age of some of the buildings close by, it is clear that tremendous effort was made to shelter that tree during reconstruction of that little square as the tree is clearly far older. Which is one of these nice things about Japan....

Been there, done that! At least to the (original) Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido.

P.S. - we'll be back in Tohoku (mainly Yamagata and Fukushima this time) later this month to try out some of the top Onsen ryokans in the region, including Onyado Kawasemi. So we'll get another shot at Sakura viewing, especially around Bandai-Asahi National Park. Can't wait!

Usually, a week after the start of the cherry blossom is considered to be the peak, which means the peak of cherry blossom in Tokyo will be around March 27.

The start of cherry blossom forecasted (again, the peak of blossom is usually 7-9 days after the start of the blossom)
Osaka: March 26
Nagoya: March 23
Fukuoka: March 21
Sapporo: April 23
Sendai: April 3
Aomori: April 15
Hiroshima: March 21
Kochi: March 24
Kagoshima: March 27

Is this a pretty typical schedule? We hope to visit the first week of April 2023.

The cherry blossoms were quite early in 2022.
