• Can I order a special meal on JAL? Can I do so online?

Yes. You can request special meal on JAL website. You need to give at least 24 hour notice. To do so online, go to view you reservation on JAL website and request for the special arrangements on that page.

• Can I preassign seats? Can I do so online?

Depends on your ticket. Some tickets e.g. US-Asia N fare tickets, do not allow advanced seat selection. One way to find out whether your ticket allows preassign seat selection is to go to JAL website to view your reservation. Click the seat selection button there. You will receive an error message if your ticket doesn't allow that. Or if there's no seat selection button, then you can't preassign seats.

But some seats won't be released until at the airport. So if you don't get the seats you want, you might be able to switch to a better seat at the airport. Seat availability will be based on your JMB status. Seats like emergency exit rows are only available to elite flyers.

• Can I check in online? When can I do it?

[International Flights]
Yes. Online check in opens at 72 hours before departure. With JAL's new QuiC service, you can check in and print your boarding pass when it's ready.

JAL recently added an "auto check-in" feature on the view reservation page. You can fill in all the required information in advance and the system will do all the work automatically for you and send you the boarding pass when it is ready.

For more details on the QuiC service, please refer to JAL website: http://www.jal.co.jp/en/quic-i/.

However Yokoso ticket and domestic flights as part of the international itinerary cannot do an online check-in.

• How early should I arrive for check in?

For international flights, with the exception of HND, economy passengers have to check-in 60 min before departure and premium passengers have to check-in 45 min before departure. At HND, the cut-off time is 40 min before departure. For details and specific info for your airport, you can refer to JAL website: http://www.jal.co.jp/en/quic-i/

• Is there an elite security line at Narita?

Yes, for higher tier JMB elites (JGC, Sapphire, JGC Premier and Diamond) flying on JAL flights.

The main security entrance nearest JAL's counters is the South Entrance. Do not go through the front (center) line but instead walk around to the left side. This doorway is somewhat hidden, but look for one or two greeters at the doorway who will check your boarding pass. The first class check in counter has walking maps available to direct you to the elite security line if you're unfamiliar.

In practice Narita's security lines rarely have delays, except perhaps if you're behind a large tour group all clearing security at the same time.

• Is there an elite security line at Haneda?

For domestic terminal, JAL provides express security lanes for higher tier elites and JGC members.
For international terminal, there is an express security lane for First Class passengers and top tier elites.

• Will I have to pay checked baggage fees?

JAL does not charge for checked baggages as long as they are within your baggage allowances.

• Will I have lounge access on my itinerary?

You can access the lounge either based on your class of travel or elite status.

Based on Elite Status:
JGC members and JMB Sapphire members have access to the business class lounge when they are traveling on oneworld carriers. JMB Diamond and JGC Premier members have access to the first class lounge when they are traveling on oneworld carriers.

Based on Class of Service:
JAL passengers traveling on international first class, business class, as well as full Y fare will have lounge access. If you are connecting between an international flight and domestic one, please refer to http://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/lounge/topics/2003_06/ and this FAQ post to see your eligibility.

For JAL domestic passengers, only those flying on domestic First class will have access to the lounge based on class of service

• Can I purchase a lounge pass?

JAL only sell lounge pass for HND Domestic Sakura Lounge and a third party lounge at HND T1.

For HND domestic Sakura Lounge, it costs 3,000 JPY per person and advanced reservation is required. For details you can refer to JAL website (only available in Japanese: http://www.jal.co.jp/dom/lounge/japan/hnd/reserve.html)
