I live in Vienna, so I was coming from another Schengen country. I can't speak from personal experience about what it is like coming from the U.S. or UK, sorry!

Unfortunately the exemptions do not work for me - I'd be visiting my daughter, who is in UK on a student visa but will be hiking in the Dolomites. If the vaccination exemption does not happen, it's a trip that will just get cancelled (am getting to be a pro at this!)

AA have just added DFW-FCO to their quarantine-free flights list to Italy. Just rebook yourself as SEA-DFW-FCO and take a separate domestic flight or Trenitalia to Venice to avoid quarantine before prices increase on the DFW-FCO route.

IMO, it's definitely not worth do ditch a trip ( especially a one where you would visit your daughter ) in a case where there are several flights with no quarantine at all for you in both directions.

Planning a 3 trip to Croatia in July/August. We are US citizens and would like to spend some of that time in Italy. We plan on taking the ferry to Venice from Croatia and then traveling throughout Italy for another 10 days or so. Since our flights from the US are round trip to Croatia, we are not able to enter Italy with one of the special quarantine free flights from the US. What are the guidelines for visiting Italy from Croatia ( we spend less than 14 days in Croatia prior) ? Any exemptions for vaccinated adults? We do have 2 children under 12 that are not vaccinated. Having a hard time understanding the restrictions and rules. Anyone know more details? Thanks in advance

As of right now, you would be able to enter Italy only IF you spent 2 weeks prior to traveling there in Croatia (or other EU country) plus negative covid tests 48 hours prior to arrival. Of course, things might change but those are the current restrictions. Entry is not determined by citizenship, but you do need to be within the EU for the 2 weeks prior to arrival.

Thank you for your response, hoping they will change the rules. Any suggestions of countries that will allow either vaccinated US citizens or negative PCR prior to arrival? I am looking for another country to visit besides for Croatia with a family.

Rules most likely will change again in the coming weeks.
So far if you are able to arrive with one of the special covid free flights and a negative test before arrival and a test after arrival there is not need to quarantine. Below the link to airport page with more information

Many countries are opening up with varying restrictions and different timelines, so when you go will also make a difference. You can travel easily to Montenegro from Croatia (fully vaccinated or negative tests are accepted) or go to Bosnia with a negative test. Of course, you could go to Greece (vaccines and negative tests are accepted). And here’s today’s Forbes article with the latest:

Again, things change frequently and it really makes sense to look at the government sites of the countries you’re interested in.
