Spire Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No, not really

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Executive for one night and used RA night for second, received Executive lake view
How are the rooms?
About 40sqm in a strange L shape with windows on two sides, bathroom had screens that opened on to entry .

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?

GOOD
Breakfast was fine and room was clean and well maintained
BAD
The president of Cameroon was staying and there were demonstrations so were not allowed access to hotel until 21.30, vague apology given. In room there was flowers and card for another guest, I mentioned this when we ran down for dinner. On return card was gone flowers remained with the fruit, next morning they came and wanted the flowers !
Dinner in restaurant was small portions of flavourless food at high prices ,service was fine.
The terrace was closed both days despite lovely weather so breakfast inside only ( I guess security incase president came down) There was constant police checking guests arriving plus many of the presidents security all over lobby
Valet parking was stopped on last morning as Maclaren had cars in entry , so had carry cases to car and call to get gate opened
Mini bar was charged per night and 50 CHF removed, first night two water an oj and another juice came to 69 CHF

Value for Euro or IHG Rewards Points? Would you return?

First night was 600 CHF thankfully second was voucher. We were happy to leave and spend next two nights at les Trois Couronnes in Vevey, which felt like a proper five star hotel .
I will not be returning to IC Geneva

Berlin IntercontinentalWere you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked two nights on points and two in Deluxe room, was given West wing junior suite (Most of other wing is closed for refurbishment)

How are the rooms?
The room was fine though I actually prefer the deluxe rooms to the junior suites. The last years I have always had club suites or Park suite but they are not available to book at the moment

How is the exec. lounge?
Closed for refurb. also due to low occupancy with covid (as yet no date for reopening, I have a booking up there for September so wonder where they'll put me
Also sadly no more F&B credit for RA's due to closed lounge

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Fruit, writing pad ,Marlene sticker pad and a beer

How was the minibar?
Nothing special , same as always here

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
As usual I was well looked after by all departments. The food in Marlene's seems to have improved with a more varied menu

-Bad
Things are a bit of a mess due to renovations, Spa remains closed and the only cocktail bar I know that don't have ingredients to make a bloody mary !

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Room was €165 for paid nights and about 30k points for those nights. I just got 42k points in my account for the stay 11 of which are elite qualifying , not sure how they got that much

Would you return?
Absolutely, until recently about 30 nights a year since 2005

FYI he (Paul Biya) is very often there. But that sounds bizarre that they wouldn't let you in. I was there when both Bill Clinton and Fidel Castro were there and there were demonstrations yet I had no problem accessing the hotel.

The hotel emailed me the day before arrival to warn me of demonstration and to print out my reservation to show the police. On arrival at the designated road to hotel the police turned us away . I called the hotel and was told they didn’t know when it would be over
Yes I had expected a somewhat better upgrade!

Willard Washington DC

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes as always.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Classic and received an excellent King Suite

How are the rooms?
One of the things I love about great old hotels is the large variety of suites. I've been here at least 50 times and have never been in this suite. It was in a front corner with views over the Treasury and White House and the Monument. Huge master bathroom and a guest bathroom. Large walk in shower in the master with a smaller shower in the guest bathroom. Dining area and large couch in front of a large desk, both facing a big screen TV. Lots of space.

Nespresso coffee machine is present, but the mini-bar is still not in use. I think they may be abandoning their old mini-bar system and bringing in a new one.

How is the exec. lounge?
None

Breakfast is served at Café du Parc and it is excellent.

What was good and what was bad?
-Good
Everything.
No issues with ordering mini-bar items from room service. You can also use your mini-bar credit for any F&B at the bar or restaurant.

-Bad
Nothing

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Points? Would you return?
Great value and I will of course return. The Willard has become an easy choice over the Wharf IC. Even if the rate is a little higher, they aren't stingy at the Willard like they have become at the Wharf.
