The Crowne Plaza Lyon – Cité Internationale thread

The former Hôtel de la Cité Concorde will open soon as the Crowne Plaza Lyon – Cité Internationale.

The Crowne Plaza Lyon – Cité Internationale stands out as a point of reference in the luxury hotel business in the heart of the famous urban architectural project, the Cite International of Lyon.

This airy and spacious 4-star hotel was first conceived by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, already well known for the design of the prestigious Georges Pompidou centre in Paris.

The Crowne Plaza Lyon – Cité Internationale is located between the banks of the Rhone River and the Parc de la Tete d'Or and just steps away from the largest Congress Centre in Lyon.

Specialised in organising seminars and conferences in Lyon, our hotel offers business travellers an exceptional array of services and facilities. Each stay at the Crowne Plaza Lyon – Cité Internationale is a truly enjoyable experience of comfort and relaxation with multilingual staff, ready to take care of your needs.

The spacious and pleasantly decorated hotel rooms have beautiful views on the Parc de la Tête d’Or and the Rhone River. At the end of a long day, you can relax at the trendy hotel bar, Le Backstage, or enjoy the cuisine of the La Scene restaurant.

Lyon is also a place where you can find internationally renowned museums, businesses and festivals. The fabulous Vieille Ville (Old Town) of Lyon is just a few minutes away by taxi or bus and will give you a feel of the charm of the city of a thousand faces.

Nice. Hopefully once they get settled in, they will offer good weekend rates.

It's a fairly good location -- except during a transit strike. We were next door at the Hilton during a transit strike a few years ago. Look forward to returning and trying out the CP.

Enfin!

It's a nice location and I generally drive to Lyon so not worried about transit. I look forward to trying it out.

420/eur in early September 2015. This hotel must be doing well. The Marriott in town is also pricing themselves at 390/eur.

The Marriott is rumored to be going under renovation in 2015, and location-wise, the CP and Marriott are almost next to each other - if not even touching it looks like?

35k IHG redemption for a 450USD/nt hotel comes out to 1.2c/point value. Might not be the best redemption, but it looks to be worth it. Does anyone care to comment on if this is worth the redemption? Or if they feel strongly about the Marriott? Or any other hotels in Lyon?

It's a bit too early I think, unless there is some big conference going on. Which should not be the case in early September. I'll bet those prices drop.

There is the Sofitel Bellecour and some decent Mercure hotels that have much better locations anyways. And there is the HI if you have a car.

I don't know where this overrating of this hotel comes from. Having stayed there, I have got absolutely no perks despite very low load factor.

Maybe you have to ask for the perks (which I hate to do). Or then they are perhaps treating well only the top tiers, based on reading the experiences thread and some RA's great treatment.
YMMV

I am pricing out the hotels in Lyon that are not participating in major US chains, and there are a number of limited service and select services hotels in Lyon much cheaper. In the $130-200/nt range that are very modern. FWIW, the #3 hotel on TripAdvisor is a 2 star hotel (ranking higher than the CP or the Marriott) is priced at $134/nt.

I am not sure how easy it is to be considered a 4 star hotel in Lyon, such as the CP, but there are 4 star hotels in the sub-$200 price point as well. Are hotels listed by Novotel/Mercure that much less desirable than the CP/Marriott? Because these brands are very popular, and have a number of locations.

I have top status also with Accor and even with that the rooms I get with the Mercure's in Lyon are much smaller than what I get at the HI or CP. But a at least two of the Mercure's have much better locations as does the Sofitel.

I just tried to book this hotel for next June during the football tournament and they want €600 non-refundable. OK, that can be expected. They also have rooms at 30K points, however those too are non-refundable! I don't recall seeing award stays that are non-refundable.

Some are non-refundable.

But why is it so important, if you want to attend the match?

It's just so far in the future that I'm not completely sure I will attend. It's not a big deal as I can drive home after the match, but one of the matches will probably end near midnight so it would be nice to stay at a hotel near the new stadium.

Crowne Plaza Lyon France Cite International

What is your Priority Club status?
Plat

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard, received executive room on 1st floor w/ lounge access.

How are the rooms?
Nicely appointed, newly condition, with robes, espresso machine, separate shower and bath, and 2 chairs in addition to desk. The yellow color scheme a bit weird but everything was comfortably.

How is the exec. lounge?
Poor. Only open in evening 630p-1030p. When I went there were 3 wines (white, red, rose) on offer, all very poor quality. A shame for France! There is a nice coffee and tea selection and a fridge of soft drinks. Food very limited: pretty gross looking plate of bacon wrapped melon that had been out for hours and 1 place of small cakes. Certainly not enough for a meal of any sort.

What was good and what was bad?
The hotel is in very nice shape but inconsistently tries to treat Plats well. For example, I was upgraded to an executive room, but on the 1st floor (1 floor up from ground), with a direct view from the courtyard where many were into my room (no privacy) and with the bars outdoor part right outside my window). When I asked to move they said there were no other exec rooms available and only 1 non exec room. The hotel didn't seem full at all so this surprised me. Apparently the 7th floor with most of the exec rooms are under construction.

Welcome is 600 points or a drink, and I went for the drink because there was nothing else around the hotel. Only to learn at the bar the voucher is only good for beer and a few base wines (probably same as the poor offerings in the club). No cocktails or choice from their broader wine selection (again... this is France!)

They are unapologetic about the club lounge not being open for breakfast. Only when I asked did they offer me breakfast in the restaurant, but they did so without hesitating. Breakfast was a nice spread.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?[/QUOTE]
I went out of the way for this property to meet an Accelerate requirement. At ~100 Euro, it was a good value, but its pretty far out of the city. If I needed to be at Cite International for a reason (Cite International is a big new complex that one might call a conference center. There is a Marriott, CP, a casino, conference center, and they all look exactly the same from the architecture) I would definitely book again. But without a compelling reason to stay in that location I probably would stay somewhere much more centrally in Lyon.

A bus that runs every 20 min can get you to one of the main train stations (Gare Part Dieu) in about 15 min, but its still another hop to more touristy things. Uber would have been about 15-20 euro per ride. There is nothing to do near the hotel except the casino. I did go for a bit and won enough to pay for the room
