aircraft range chart and fuel

I'm looking for a basic understanding of how much fuel will be used on specific routes?

For example, does this chart help me understand the approx amount of fuel I'll need?

No. Fuel burn is a lot more complicated. A lot of fuel to climb. In cruise as weight decreases fuel burn rate decreases.

Yeah thought it would be too simple, is there an easy way to get an approx amount?

I'm writing a very basic airline simulation game, fuel cost / fuel burn rates impact this a lot. So not used for anything close to operating performance but just a way of getting a number which is somewhat realistic for an artificial world

For many aircraft you may also be able to reasonably locate a chart/data with fuel burn for climb as well as average taxi fuel burn rate. Combined with basic cruise burn data (adjusting for decreased weight over time as mentioned) that's probably close enough for the purpose you've described.

And then take into account the wind speed & direction.

Probably worth posting your question on PPRUNE, more pilots tend to hang out there. Could ask for a sample calculation from their flight (ballpark) and average is out that way.
