AA EQM Question
 

Hello:
I'm a gold member on American Airlines. We have a flight coming up next month going to Europe and I was trying to Calculate the EQM i will get for the trip. We will be flying discounted business. The AA website is a little confusing as it shows

Discount First/Business A, P, D, I, R 2.00 EQM &

Benefits Executive Platinum Platinum Gold
Elite mileage bonus* 120% 60% 40%

I used Mileage Calculator and came up with the following

MYR - CLT 500 EQM

CLT - LHR - BCN 4692 Miles x 2 = 9,384 EQM

BCN - JFK - CLT 4361 Miles x 2 = 8,722 EQM

CLT - MYR 500 EQM

Total EQM = 19,106

Is this correct? Do i add the 40% on top of that? Any help would be appreciated.

It is, in a sense. There's a permanent announcement at the top titled "Welcome to the Information Desk! Please READ THIS BEFORE POSTING in this forum!" It explains the purpose and use of this forum. Among other things, it says (in a box right at the top)

where the bold text is in that announcement.

The point isn't to be a hard-a$$, but with several hundred thousand members and millions of posts, FlyerTalk would degenerate into total anarchy if we didn't try to keep things in the right places. Yes, sometimes we get over-zealous about that, and sometimes it can be a bit off-putting to new members. Our intentions are good, though. I'm sure the folks who frequent the AA forum, who are the ones most likely to know the answers to AA-specific questions, will try to help.

But not every new user's question belongs to ID Forum. FT is like a library with a system/structure that houses all different kind of fora & each forum serves its purpose.

For newbies, you can never go wrong by reading the sticky threads in all the fora and don't cross-post.

This is a common misconception. Info desk was never designed to be for new user questions, but for questions that related to more than one program. It's become a dumping ground or forum for new users, but back in the good old days, new users did just fine posting in the American Airlines forum when they had questions about American Airlines.

Not only should you read the sticky before calling posters names, but also realize that if you look in the AA forum, there may already be a thread addressing the exact question you have. It doesn't make sense for us to have multiple threads on the same topics in multiple places. Unfortunately the moderators can't keep up with moving all the posts here that belong elsewhere. Its like a game of whack-a-mole.

But welcome to Flyertalk. Spend some time reviewing the stickies in this and other forums, learn how to use the search forum, and prepare to be surprised just how much information there already is here.
