Status Match - How long does it actually last for?
Hi all,
Trying to find an answer to this but it involves all the big 8 chain hotels and there is no one definitive thread to find this answer. I recently status matched my Le Club Accor Platinum (earned) to Best Western Diamond and was accepted. It was a painless process and tempted me to further status match with other hotel loyalty schemes. At the moment, I paused my status match to ask: 1) How long does the status last in theory? Is there an expiry date? 2)How long do experienced FT members have had their status matched with elite hotel programs? The big 8 hotel programs I am referring to are - Accor Hotels - Best Western - Club Carlson - Hilton HHonors - Hyatt Gold Passport - IHG Rewards Club - Marriott Rewards - Starwood Preferred Guest Thanks for sharing! |
maybe you should read this sticky at the top of this forum

Of course mudd_stuffin. But in the section Miles Buzz, there is a thread for Airline Status Match Master Thread detailing the status match of airlines.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...13-2014-a.html After all, isn't getting status matched a hotel deal when you get additional perks and bonus points for doing very little? Moderators, could you help? Many thanks. |

Many thanks for your sarcastic remarks. What you have mentioned, however, is quite interesting and I will try my utmost best to deconstruct what you have said. 1) "requests from travelers who would like others to use the internet, google, and search features for them-- the information desk" - Are you suggesting that all 553,923 FlyerTalk members are travelers who are too lazy to do their own research? I am sure they are not but why are you on FT then? Why do you go on Hotel Deals on FT to check out stuff? You sound like an expert who uses the Net and Google to find excellent hotel deals. So my question again to ask why you are here. I know why I am here. Because people on FT share their tips in a friendly environment, that's why. People contribute tips and they gain knowledge. This is a two way street. 2) "for people who can't be bothered to search for information in the forum for each loyalty program" - You are presuming that I did not bother to search for information. Well buddy, you are wrong. As someone who claims to be an attorney on his blog, (does this satisfy your criteria that I do my research beforehand) I am sure you have been taught never to presume. - I have been spending a lot of time reading about hotel loyalty schemes. I know the theory (number of nights needed to achieve elite status, benefits which come with newly acquired elite status) but I do not know how it is put into practise. - Which is why, I asked, in practise how long do members get to hold onto their elite status. On some hotel programs, you hold onto the elite status far longer than expected even if you did not qualify for it in the following year. That was all I wanted to know. 3) Since you claim to have the following status "PC PlatAmb; Hilton Carlson & SPG Gold; Marriott Silver; Hyatt Plat" why don't you share your experience instead of writing a baseless paragraph such as the above. - Point of note. Priority Club has been renamed IHG Rewards Club since March 2013 so you might want to update your information accordingly. Just a suggestion, bien sur. 4) I would thoroughly recommend reading the following (an excellent piece from frugaltravelguy) http://www.frugaltravelguy.com/2014/...d-players.html (T&C of FlyerTalk Section 12.1) http://www.flyertalk.com/help/rules.php#welcoming Lastly, I may be a newbie but remember you were once a newbie too. Go pick on someone else in your own league. |
OP, I think you are better off dropping the debate. There is no point in defending yourself. If anything, just acknowledge that you did not follow this forum's sticky and move on - post separately your status match question in each hotel program's forum if you cannot find in each forum where the information is.
If you saw the airlines status match thread in MilesBuzz (it is not Miles Buzz), maybe you could have posted there instead? When I looked, I at least found the status match thread for SPG. If the information you are looking for is not in there, just post in that thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...er-thread.html |
Status Match - How long does it actually last for?
OP, my apologies if you took it personally. I would never have responded the way I did if you haven't been so insistent when people pointed out you put your post in the wrong place. I agree we should be welcoming to new, inexperienced members of the community. But that gets you the ability to be forgiven for putting something in the wrong forum, not talking back to people who point out you did so
Unfortunately, for some of us, the quality of Flyertalk has decreased greatly with the advent of the Information Desk and the increase in numbers of people disregarding the stickies explaining the purposes of particular forums. Thanks for the note about my profile. I mostly use the app, which doesn't show that info. You may not know it, but people like FrugalTravelGuy are the reason newbies have flooded this place, and he (and now his website) have gotten rich off "newbies" by providing very basic info and selling credit cards. I still think Info Desk is the proper place for your post. In its title, it says it is the place for "New Member Q&A and cross program Award Travel Advice". It is also the place for "newbies" who simply want to get info, rather than share it. (Not all members of FT). It is also the designated "flame free" forum, implying other threads have "flames." Finally, here's what 30 seconds on google got me: http://www.statusmatcher.com/ - describes the process for status matches in nearly every loyalty program http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...thread-41.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...te-status.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...-platinum.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt...-10-a-107.html You can also type things like Hilton Flyertalk status match into Google. I hope this helps you put knowledge into practice. |
