San Sebastaian is not to be missed
My wife is Spanish and San Sebastian is one of our absolute favorites worldwide. We were there for several months last summer. Just amazing. :)

if using AA miles to fun there's no extra charge to fly there via Madrid
That's an interesting idea. I was planning to book LAX-MAD but could I make San Sebastian the final destination at no extra cost with a ~5 day stopover in Madrid (to see my wife's family)?
