How many miles do you earn and burn annually?
 

Taking everything into consideration, how many miles do you accrue each year vs. redeem? It would be interesting to see how many people try to burn through their miles as fast as they earn them or build up their account balances.

I am saving up for 2x RTW with Skyteam (440k). I started in 2013 and collected 250k so far, I should reach my goal in 2014 so no burning at all for me now.
Last big trip was to Pacific (150k) in two years. I basically collect a lot until I'm ready for the big trip.

I burned very little last 2 years as I was saving for huge trip to Hawaii. 1 mil hilton, 350k UR and 750k AA. Alas I couldn't take the trip as we welcomed an addition to the family. No real plans for 2014. Probably just build up SPG and UR in 2014. Then take the trip in 2015.

I've earned over a million annually over the past 6 years. All through actual (no MRs ever) flying and hotel stays. Very, very few CC bonii or schemes. Generally I earn 300-400K airline miles and 600K-1.5M hotel points. I use them for family and close friends, primarily.

My marco totals have been stuck at around the same threshold for a few years. 1.5 M airline lines and .5 M hotel points give or take 300ishK the past 3 years.

Over the past several years I have generally accumulated more miles & points in a given year than I have spent. That's because I have been saving up toward big awards-- week-long stays in resort hotels and round-the-world flights.

Wow... How are you guys earning so many miles in a year?

I earned about 100k miles on UA with an explorer card 50k bonus, 25k in spending, and the rest were business trips. Only about 15k for Marriott from business.

I haven't spent anything but I'm saving for a trip to Europe in 2015.

They are not all miles. Most likely about half of their numbers are hotel points, which are generally worth significantly less than airline miles and easier to collect. 50k HHonors are worth much less than 50k Delta SM.

That being said, some hotel points are worth more than airline miles (SPG vs DL) but it's rare.

If Ted King is only using his/her SSN to churn, there is no way he is earning 2.8 million miles. He probably means 2.8 million miles + misc points OR he is using multiple SSN's (those of his family members), which is actually the key if you want to rake in 2.8 million miles on an annual basis. If you only use 1 additional SSN, you would need to still apply for both personal and business versions of nearly every airline/transfer card.

Joined this miles game since June 2013, and I have earned 0.5M so far, and planning to burn 300k in 2014 for International Trip.

This year was my lowest on UA / *A in 20 years. Earned a little over 300,000 RDM's (from just 102,000 EQM's & burned them all
However, had one of my better years w EK / Skywards. Earned over 900,000 award miles & have not burned any yet. Saving them up & inviting a bunch of friends to this years race in March
***Dont have any airline affiliated credit cards except Etihad who I hardly fly...but it was free from my bank

Earned 450k ba miles and 1 241 certificate through credit card spend and another 200k amex points through spend. Burnt 95k aeroplan miles and 340k ba miles on two trips for two to Asia and Europe and a pair of Cathay transcontinental tickets all in business.

Burnt 670k miles/points. No idea how much I have earned this year but still have 900k miles/points in Awardwallet.

Earned about 1.1 millions and spent about the same amount. How I did it:
-around 700 K through credit card sign up bonuses in three churns each with 4 credit cards (with some retention bonuses).
-Spending about $100 K on credit cards for about everything including some travel expenses reimbursed by work, earning me about 150,000 miles/points
-the rest was through actual flying and hotel stay, about 350 K points/miles
This is my third year in this game.
I love this game/hobby :)

I try always to burn all miles on hold. I use it in any way weather for upgrades or free tickets for me and my family members.

I am always concerned about sudden devaluations, which are always unpredictable.
