I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), and I found the flyer talker forum in July. The forum member has been very helpful - (for example, getting an earlier appointment for global entry application, etc).

I will go to China to my hometown, about 400 miles N.W. of Shanghai. (I am a Chinese Citizen, permanent resident of U.S) in September- October, probably visit Shanghai as well as Beijing.

I just found out about FlyerTalk in today's (Aug 7, 2014) article in WSJ titled 'The Guide to Round-the-World Tickets.' As the title mentions, I am dreaming of going for a round-the-world trip, or maybe not exactly round the world, but that covers multiple countries and immersion experience, over a period of 3-6 months, starting sometime in early 2015.

Little bit about myself: I am a doctoral student in Microbiology in mid-west US. With plans to graduate sometime in fall, and before I get sucked into the roller-coaster of job/family related responsibilities, I want to keep early-2015 free for myself to explore, to hit the road (sky?) and kill the beast inside me thats dancing to go travel and see the world.

The reason I joined flyer talk is to get inspired from fellow travelers, and maybe get some tips on the way.

My name is Ralph, a student from the Netherlands.
After a backpacking trip to south east asia in 2013, I kind of ignited this wanderlust. Not being able to travel this year due to work, I decided to start hosting people in my house on Airbnb, which is really a joy!

I read about mileage runs in a Dutch travel magazine, and it got me curious.
This would be an interesting new hobby for me, and I would like to know what kind of tips or directions you guys could provide to start as a newbie. :cool:
