Some coworkers and myself are flying BOM-DEL-BOM (Agra) on KingFisher this weekend and have never traveled on an Indian airline. Is there anything we should be aware of before traveling? Of course we will bring our passports and such but I just want to make sure I cover all of my bases before we depart. Thanks!

You should have a great flight. Be aware of the following:
-Security measures are time consuming at all departure points. Be sure to get to the airport in time especialy if flights are around peak hours in the morning and evening.
-You will need a photo ID and a copy of your itin or bp to gain access to the terminal building... another security measure.
-The planes are newer and cleaner than what we are used to here in the US.
-The inflight crew is nicer and more service oriented than we are used to here in the US.
-They will serve you what passes as a full meal on your flight unless you are on a Lite / red flight (their version of a LCC).
-If your ticket was a part of an itin originating in the US then the more liberal baggage rules apply otherwise they have more restrictions on weight and pieces of baggage.

Not much different, but just make sure your carry-on items each have an airline carry-on tag that can be stamped by the security personnel and that you have a physical printout of your itinerary with your names on it.

Hi...You won't have to remove your shoes during security checks, though! Some IT flights have an all-economy config, where legroom may be an issue, but I don't think any of those crafts operate on the BOM-DEL-BOM route. Oh yes, if you have check-in baggage, you'll have to get them scanned, stamped with security seals, and then take them yourself to the checkin counter (procedure often varies for international departures out of India, hence the specific point). Can't think of anything else offhand, but if you have a specific question, let us know.

Thanks for the tips! Now I'm just depressed because our travel agent booked us in T and it looks like NWA won't take miles from that fare class. Those of us who have Continental #'s will enjoy them though. Bummer.

The major "difference" that we noted when flying IT was the large number of employees roaming outside the terminals (and also just inside the terminal door) looking to be of assistance to their departing passengers.

The first time this occurred, I was alarmed at the speed with which this helpful person took charge of our luggage being taken out of our taxi. Once it's understood that this is an IT employee who helps you into the terminal, through luggage security, to the check-in desk, and then escorts you to passenger security. it's a highlight of the trip.

However one day we were flying 9W, and we waited patiently at the taxi for their helpful equivalent, but none arrived. It seemed to us to be an IT differentiator.

IT is a great airline. I am not sure if you've seen the Optiontown deals, where you can generally fly that route for about a 3000 INR ($65 upgrade), its usually a good deal. I fly the DEL/BOM/DEL route quite a bit, and I know that the 830 am DEL/BOM usually doesn't have a Kingfisher First, unless they have changed in the past month or so. Not sure which return that plane does, or if it heads elsewhere, but the optiontown wouldn't work there.

In case you don't know about Optiontown, its www.optiontown.com, where you essentially pay to be put in line for an upgrade (no extra miles if you get the upgrade, just at original paid fare class), and if you don't get the upgrade, you get a full refund. Its pretty nice, since the Indian airlines are pretty stingy with their upgrades for FFers.

As far as security checks though, I live over in India/Asia for much of the year and I have to say, flying through Delhi on a Monday morning commuter flight to Mumbai is way easier than trying to get through security at Newark at 8 am! Its rare to have more than a 5 minute wait, because they have so many security checkpoints. Most important about security though, is to make sure you get that luggage tag and get it stamped, then make sure it never gets caught up on something and falls off. Nothing worse than having to run back through security when you're already boarding.

you should have no problems. They sometimes give comp-upgrade. Ask at the counter.
