Predictions for the end of Kingfisher Airlines!

Confratulations to AJLondon who has been declared the winner!!!!!!

Hi,

Just for a little entertainment on this board:

I thought we should start a competition on predicting the demise of Kingfisher Airlines?

I was reading a blog i searched on the internet:

http://adimishra.blogspot.com/2008/0...r-of-21st.html

I agree with most of what the blogger has to say and through personal observation and experiance with Kingfisher Airlines (My wife works for them!), they are pretty much amateur with the organisational structure of the airline, basically it works on the whims of Vijay Mallya!

So the rules are simple:

1) Predict the month and year in which Kingfisher will end operations! (When Vijay Mallya sells up and walks away or when the planes stop flying if Vijay Mallya is still incharge! Whichever comes first!)

2) The winner will be the one who guesses correctly.

3) If two or more guess the same month then a tie breaker question will be asked to decide the winner (I will think of something in due time). If i jointly win, i will ask another poster to think of a question.

4) The winner will win something that i decide on (will keep you informed when i think of something!).

so let the game begin:

August 2012. However I think you need to define what "end operations" actually means.

Does it count if he sells up to someone else for example, in which case I will go for August 2010.

Just for clarification, this post is to ridicule Vijay Mallya and his hands on approach (AKA meddling!) in daily operations of the airline.

End operations is defined as :

When Vijay Mallya sells up and walks away or when all planes are grounded while he is still in charge or when someone forces him out!

pls let me know if there is any other tweaks and clarifications required!

I have my own agenda : The sooner they go bust, the sooner she joins me in London!

I think they will go on for a long while. So my prediction is 2050. That is when super fast magnetic railways will making flying thing of the past. ;)

Personally I think the guy is great and has set up one heck of a good airline. Its unfortunate that the turn in economy has hit him during his startup plans.

I cannot give you a prediction for two reasons:

1) The question is so random in the first place. The thread is entitled "Predictions for the end of Kingfisher Airlines", then you speak about "...predicting the demise of Kingfisher Airlines", later still you ask as to "Predict the month and year in which Kingfisher will end operations" and in the same breath you speak about the time "[w]hen Vijay Mallya sells up and walks away".

Many airlines have thrived after their founder left (current example: easyJet), so basing "the end of Kingfisher Airlines" on the departure of VM is totally random.

2) I do not know enough about Kingfisher to make a calculated prediction.

its just a little bit of fun, the whole of India knows that Vijay Mallya is bleeding cash over Kingfisher Airlines, stories are going round at Heathrow airport that they are going to pack up shop in about a year. Even my wife mentions that things are not going swimmingly. Their pay is never paid on time, sometimes upto 10-14 days late. I worked for AA, they are in a ...... financial situation but i always received pay on time.

the reason why i stated when planes stop flying or when VM walks away is because Kingfisher will always be linked with him and Kingfisher beer even if someone else takes over. its just fun to predict when he would get bored of the airline industry and walk away or totally fails!

BTW, i think the service onboard is top notch and deserves all the plaudits but that does not take away my opinion that the airline is run by amateurs and is slowly going down the pan!

IT's issue is the debt servicing concern and the great trouble in raising cash in this environment to meet those and other operational needs.

Mallya has already pledged over so much of his ownership stake in the brewery company -- a business that is his family's crown jewels and which finances everything else he does -- that his ability to personally finance IT going forward (by doing the same thing with his remaining, non-pledged UB shares) is not a realistic option unless he is really willing to gamble on losing all of his UB shares too.

I just hope this does not happen, i don't want 9W to be the only decent carrier.

June 2010 --I think that the FA's will revolt against the airline due to the 40yr old fat balding men leering and then drinking for free and then trying to "get some" on one of the long haul routes.

But this will only happen after ONE person goes to far and forces himself on an FA thereby creating a strike by FA's so that Mallya cannot fly the planes and will have HUGE losses as plans sit on the ground.

A sign of things to come? ;)

What an odd post.

Looks like the complete order for the A380 is cancelled, the A345 only two were built and the deliveries of A321 for 2009 were sold to TK because financing was not available. Looks like IT will a fleet of 5 A330 and 45 regionals for the next few years :(

Not really - I only flew *one* flight on IT, and noted the same thing - uncouth types on board, who chose Kingfisher for this sole reason....back on Jet, where I prefer professionalism (well, lower standards now...) as compared to the "girls in red".

(And on that particular flight - in the cockpit too - both of them!)
