AI standby

Hi - Does Air India allow passengers to board earlier flight same day/origin/route/destination if we reach airport early - without changing fare diff? In other countries passengers are allowed to standby and fly earlier flights on same day.

Never seen it in India and frankly even Europe. It's mostly US airlines that allow this.

I don't think AI officially allows that. I know UK has a chargeable scheme for that (free for some elites). It is a wonderful benefit to use in the US.

That said, you could try charming the check-in agent. I once had a BOM-DEL-IAD flight on AI and at check-in the agent proactively asked me if I wanted to take an earlier flight to DEL which would depart shortly. I agreed to it. So they can do it for sure.

AI check in agent once voluntarily asked me if I wanted to go on an earlier flight on the BOM-DEL sector and I accepted. So they do that sometimes.

Additionally keep in mind... you can't enter the airport before T-4 hours.

I've had that happen a few times as well. I guess if they see heavier loads on the later flight then they probably feel they can re-sell your ticket at a higher last minute price.

On the other hand, every time I have asked to change to an earlier flight, I have always been quoted a change fee & fare difference.

Dont think AI has a policy.. I was refused without fee yesterday in DEL for DEL-BLR - space was available in same fare bucket..

Indigo has a policy I believe: https://www.goindigo.in/add-on-servi...igo-early.html

Vistara also: https://www.airvistara.com/in/en/tra...tara-fly-early

Both seem very expensive though..

I've asked and been moved to the earlier CCU DEL flight a few times (5.30p instead of 8p). Just ask nicely at the checkin desk.
