Any experiences with the Asian Vegetarian meal in F out of BOM?

There's always more than one vegetarian option, so I wouldn't worry.
Look upthread there are a couple of menus posted from earlier this year.
The variety is always great. The quality is usually good. The presentation has improved. But the actual delivery of the food from galley to seat can be hit or miss.
In general, I wouldn't pre-order anything on an I F flight (unless there's a medical or kosher requirement).

You will have at the very minimum 2 vegetarian options on your flight. One Indian & one continental.

Yah. What he said.
However, these days the meal choices may be the least of your worries.

I've got a BOM-LHR-BOM coming up next week and I changed from AI First to BA Business simply because I don't want to deal with any potential aircraft swaps / delays / bomb threat diversions.

It's a 3 day trip so any disruption will make the whole thing pointless. Haven't flown BA in decades and haven't flown long haul J in years... But I suppose I will live! :)

BA J will be far superior that AI F. No matter what AI fanboys here tell you. Far superior.

I have a feeling many aspects will be far better than AI certainly.

And I'm far from an AI fanboy, but I've flown 6 segments in First this year, and can say that AI do a decent job. They still have a LONG way to go, but they have been more than adequate in my experience. Especially when it comes to some things I value more. Eg the ground handling is important to me; I couldn't care less about the food or entertainment. But then again it's not an entirely fair compare of F vs J.

AI First Class transfer experience BOM

I am flying LHR to BOM in F and connecting to BOM to GOA in J. All AI, one ticket.

I am being told to keep my in-flight F expectations as low as possible (fingers crossed my ex-Etihad plane doesn't get swapped) but what should I expect when I land in BOM? Any expedited transfer services? Is there a F lounge in BOM (have a 4.5 hour layover).

You might get an escort from the plane through immigration to the domestic lounge. But in BOM & DEL that has been hit and miss. There is no F lounge in BOM. It's a decent space for a J lounge nothing exceptional..... relatively quiet and separate from the credit card access sections.

Looking into booking F in IAD-DEL early JAN and came across this : aviationa2z. com/index.php/2024/10/07/air-india-ups-delhi-washington-flights-deploys-777-exclusive/In a notable equipment upgrade, Air India will deploy the Boeing 777-200LR on this route starting November 15, 2024, replacing the currently used Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner comes with a total of 256 seats which includes 18 flatbed Business Class seats in 2-2-2 configuration and 238 economy seats in standard 3-3-3 configuration. While, Boeing 777-200LR has 238 seats, 18 lower seats compared to 787-8. However, it comes with three class configurations with eight flatbed First Class seats in 1-2-1 arrangement, 35 angle-flat Business Class seats in 2-3-2 arrangement and 195 standards economy seats in 3-3-3 configuration.

Is this actually an upgrade or downgrade ? I guess for J it seems like a downgrade.
Any ideas if these are legacy planes? most likely they are , just wanted to confirm as super-newbie in this game. tia!

If it says it’s a 2-3-2 in business then it is a legacy aircraft. So, certainly a downgrade in J in my book. That’s a long flight for angled flat seating.

It's a legacy AI 777. J is definitely a downgrade vs 787 but F will be more comfortable, maintenance and hygiene issues aside.

Not sure if you booked and already flew the segment but interested in reading about your experience for mixed cabin 1F/1J couple.

EWR/JFK - BOM in F

Wondering if anyone has flown EWR/JFK - BOM in F recently and if they've 'added' anything to the ground experience there?

Also wondering if anyone knows if the AI144 (EWR - BOM) menu is the same as AI119 (JFK - BOM) as the AI app doesn't show a menu for 144 but does for 119

My understanding is that it is the same. I flew JFK-BOM in December in J. Food was good, although I didnt love that meal 2 (hot sandwich plus hot kebabs) and 3 (cold sandwiches) were basically sandwiches. That said, the flight was great with the PJ’s, bedding, mattress pad etc etc. Wish they had WiFi - IFE was good (I only used the English content). They had quite a few a grade series to binge (the ones that are 6-10 eps and are done - limited series or whatever). Food on my BOM-LHR was better with two full proper meals - breakfast and lunch, One odd thing on both flights - they really wanted you to stick to all veg or all non veg, Meaning they didn’t love if you wanted the veg ap, non veg main and the veg desert. I mean I wanted the rasmali and not the cake - they gave it to me but still. I’ve never not mixed and matched Indian food and don’t think of veg vs non veg but rather what do I want to eat.

Has anyone flown BOM-LHR in the recent past?

Just wondering if the equipment swaps have stopped or at least been minimised.

I plan to travel in late March and do not want to deal with a swap to the dumpy old AI planes!
