Troubles booking indigo tickets website and mobile app

I’m trying to book internal india domestic travel with indigo. I’m us based and trying us issued credit cards. None of my visa or Mastercards work for booking. It looks like the site/app are both trying to pop up an intermediate security check that doesn’t display and then it places tje PNR on hold. I tried using an Amex and that went through to the SMS passcode and pop up. I’d prefer to use the citi MC as it offers much better travel protection. I don’t see any way to contact indigo to complete an on hold ticket either.

You could ring their customer support line and check on the same.

And the same problem with Go First. Except they do not accept Amex so no go with booking online. Vistara booking works but it’s routed through Google instead of the vistara website

This is a known problem with most airlines in India. Amex works for most but Visa & MC do not.

The RBI has mandated that all transactions are to be verified with an OTP & a number of international credit cards don't have that option or requirement.

Yes I had this problem when paying for Sri Lankan air ticket (BOM-CMB) in India with US credit card. Ended up using an Indian debit card. One can try using Indian travel websites (Cleartrip.com, makmytrip.com or Yatra).

I don’t recall having the same trouble last year when I was booking. Would have been in late September. Booked them all with MC. It was mix of airlines.

Having similar issues, tried different cards, called credit card company they don't see charges coming through. Contacted Indigo here is their response. Unable to get through to their contact center either.

With reference to your mail, we would like to inform you that international credit cards are also allowed to make bookings with IndiGo.
Further, if you need any other assistance to make a reservation with us feel free to contact our 24*7 call center at 0124-6173838 or visit our website.

The only card (US issuers) that worked for me was an Amex. That went through to a page where you enter the otp that amex sends to your phone. Then it ticketed and confirmed. Same as you, I called citi and they didn’t see any kind of attempted transaction on their end when I tried that card (MC) or Chase (visa)

if you have an Amex give that a try.

Indigo booking using US based credit card

Has anyone been able to book a flight using US based credit card recently? I have tried using Bank of America Visa credit card and payment is getting declined all time. I tried using credit union master card as well and it resulted in same - declined.

I have used Bank of America and other cards few years back without any issues. Indigo support is waste of time and doesn't know what's the issue is. There is no issue with my bank

There are 2 problems that happen. Firstly 2FA that is mandatory now in India is not properly supported by US cards. VBV/MSC needs to be enabled on your cards. Secondly, you can also let your bank know that you're doing a transaction on the Indigo website and that they should let that transaction through. US Amex usually works the best, they support 2FA by default.

Or book through an OTA.

Yeah, ended up using Amex BCP card and there was no issue. The problem is there is a foreign transaction fee on this card if not paid in US dollars. I didn't incur any since I paid in the US $. However, in many instance I would like to use BOA Travel Rewards card which has zero foreign transaction fees which seems like a difficult thing to do now.

What is VBc/MSC by the way?

With BOA Visa and Credit Union Master card, the transaction was not even going to Bank's payment gateway so there was nothing showing up on my online account like Declined or something else.

VBV - Verified by Visa. MSC - MasterCard Secure Code. It's what VC & MC call their 2FA technologies. Generally good practice to have them enabled especially while you're traveling.

The Reserve Bank of India recently implemented guidelines for online credit card transactions which resulted in the majority of international cards getting declined. Amex is the only one that will work at the moment, not just with Indigo but with every other airline in India.

Kind of ironic with Amex being banned in India from acquiring new customers because they've failed to meet RBI requirements! :)

Irony & our current government's policies go hand in hand.
