9W, no kits in Premier?
I flew 9W EWR-BRU-EWR. No kits in either direction. We got PJ's EWR-BRU, but nothing BRU-EWR. Is this normal?

The buggers on Jet now do what they feel like...even I had a problem with them not offering the PJs on the night flight/s whatsoever recently! There is now absolutely no reason to fly Jet internationally - *especially* if you have to pay *more* than other carriers, who have standard procedures they follow to the letter, as compared to Jet staff who run hot/cold... |

I've been on HKG flights where they went around with a tray of cheap eyeshades, socks and toothbrushes instead of amenity kits. And I've been told of it happening on the LHR flights too.

No consistency whatsoever! Are they doing an Air-India and selling off these things for extra pocketmoney, ala your experience, jasepl? :p |
I've never seen or heard of Jet property being sold in the market (not that I've been wandering Bhendi Bazaar in search of Bulgari pouches). Of course, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
I am inclined to believe though that this phenomenon, if it exists at all, is not nearly as prevalent at Jet as it is at Air India. Jet are all about cutting costs (at any cost) and they seem to have changed the provisioning itself, which means no kits, fewer meals, pillows etc. AI, on the, other hand, have no need to cut costs. And they seem to love their flab. And speaking of flab, I'd expect there to be a holy riot if the AI employees' constitutional right to steal from the taxpayers was curbed in any way. |

These days it's a multicolored slim purse-type kit - haven't opened one myself and don't know if it is affiliated with any fashion designer - maybe a desi one?? |

I asked, they said no kits. I even had to seek out an FA just to get an eyemask.

Which sector?
On BRU-EWR, it was obvious they weren't going to give us anything. No turndown service. They also wouldn't let passengers choose soup & salad with the meal service, only soup OR salad. ' I love the hard product, and the EWR-BRU flight was very pleasant, but no kits in biz is really tacky, and the complete lack of any amenities on the BRU-EWR flight felt very cheap. |

EWR-BRU. When I got on board they had the socks waiting at the seats and came around asking if we would like PJ's. I had to ask for an eyemask. I also asked re. kits and was told there were none.
I think they gave us the kits though, but can't remember, as boarding was chaotic... Crew sucked, never gave any refills for champagne and I had to get loud to get any service, which is not warranted at all in biz... (I love the fact that Jet shows both the C and the Y seatmap as almost full, and then runs with a half-full plane! :p They really know how to manipulate the competition - or so they think! ;) )

One the BRU-BOM I asked for, and managed to get both - even on a full flight.

Their shift to A333 product with one large cabin and small monitors is not going to even make me consider them at all in the future! Never flew Swiss in biz (only in F), so have not gotten used to that. Anyway, LHs new biz is decent and I can still manage to sleep on old LH biz with the seat-trick. I might try Virgin now, as they have the herringbone config and have been newly refitted. Plus you get more luggage allowance. (Weight-wise. 23 kgs. is absolutely ridiculous in biz!) Yes, lack of amenities would drive me crazy - I've gotten used to the dimwits not offering us PJs and kits on the day sectors, and now that they are changing to the "coffin seats" (as the Jet FAs themselves describe it - I had to explain this fact to the Swiss top board execs visiting us in BOM during their new biz and F introduction at their event they held some years ago (as well as that the Jet seat was better) - but they were too busy to listen, and were talking about how the Gulf carriers were killing their business...) Overall, the *only* good thing with flying Jet nowadays is that the lounge is not overflowing, due to the JFK and MAA sectors eliminated. However, the one shower they have (with no hot water!) is a big let-down. So now they don't get to open the old BMI lounge opposite, after refurbishing it for themselves! |
while i don't defend 9w much, i recently discovered that SQ on its flagship flights on the A345s, which are nonstop SIN-EWR-SIN and SIN-LAX-SIN in all biz (longest flights in the world), don't get any amenities either. just eyeshades and socks. get your own PJs and kitbags if you need em!
so this is a world apart! |
