And it's started : "temporary" JetMilan cuts in September
For a few weeks in September-October, they're going from daily DEL-MXP to 5 weekly:
http://airlineroute.net/2012/07/05/9w-mxp-sep12/ Could JetMilan be going the way of JetBurg? |
JNB had reduction first before being cut too...
This might be the beginning of the end of DEL-MXP. |

So! That brings us back to" What lies in Jet's future?" FRA, AMS/CDG, or an unlikely LHR? I know what I am about to say is nothing new, but it esacpes the management of Jet. Join an alliance. |
Every time I step on a Jet flight its packed to the brim. You can never get seats so if they are not doing well then who is?

International--Probably the same as above. If people are complaining about not getting an upgrade to business even when the business cabin is empty, means too many business class seats than it can sell. May be the routes you travel on are different from the routes about which people complain. |

Domestic--If the airline is selling upgrades for Rs 1000-2000, and most people who want it can get it, the airline has too many business class seats.

Saying that only a few months ago I was solo on PNQ-DEL. But other then that they are always full. My experience is between the metro's. |

In Jets case you need to get a confirmed Economy redemption seat before you can upgrade. You can't upgrade on a paid fare for the same amount.

If most of the flights have nearly full cabins and Jet is still not making any money, it's either bad management, or not enough revenue to meet the cost or both. |

Due seasonal fluctuations or perpetually low loads?

While virtually all my BRU and LHR flights have been very busy in J, on several MXP segments there have been about 5 J pax in a 30 seat cabin! I have also done two MXP flights where I was the only J pax onboard!
Out of the NA routes, YYZ I have seen can often have lower J loads. Every time I have managed to get an empty seat next to me (in the 18 J cabin) and also seen several other empty seats strewn around. Sample size of about 10 flights in the past couple of years. |

. I more often then not always see someone using a upgrade voucher though when ever I am checking in. But they do control their loads quite well. An example of this was (and this is always what happens with me) DEL-BOM I will wait list for an upgrade and loads will be wide open but leading to a few days before the flight the business cabin will fill up and show J2 D0 scenario. I turn up at the airport and with J2 D0 still get the upgrade 80 % of the time. Now they couldn't have filled up the cabin with upgrades before hand so I am guessing they are all paid pax's in the cabin. |
Jet have no trouble filling their planes - in Y, because they have evidently opted for the "bums in seats at any cost" model, going by (a) JetKonnect and (b) Goyal's proud declaration that (paraphrasing here) "we carry more trash from London to Bangkok than Thai, BA and Emirates combined."
And that is one of their sillier targets. because they're still left with Indigo fares at Air India costs (not to mention steadily decreasing quality). That, on top of all of their other belief-defying decisions, means they will never make money unless they change.

I couldn't answer that one.

Quite the opposite, actually. It's in Jet's interest to allow whole-sale points and voucher redemptions on routes with chronically low paid premium demand. If nothing else, it will reduce the liability they're carrying and reduce the criticism, even if only slightly. |
