Lowest fare from ORD to CCU?
I am looking to travel R/T from ORD to CCU starting end Dec or early Jan and return after around 25/26 days. Right now, the lowest I am getting is 1122 on AI. Is it possible to get a lower fare for my travel period? I am not sure whether to wait or book it right now.. I got this fare on Priceline. Will contacting an agent help get lower fares for my travel period?
I am not too inclined to travel on AI. |
welcome to ft kyunbit....that looks like a pretty good rate for december....if you are looking for a good travel agent then let me know & i can pass on a couple of numbers to you via pm....i'm not sure how much you would be able to save though....

weflyhome.com from LH often has decent rebookable offers from LH. The fare you quote is very decent.... the on the ground experience with AI is not so great and often a fare quoted for AI on expedia is not honored, so make sure the fare you saw actually tickets otherwise you are in for a surprise the day you want to travel

I know you're not inclined to take AI, but the nonstop from JFK to DEL (continuing to CCU) is very comfortable and with modern aircraft with AVOD, etc. .

Fare quoted not honoured ?? Is it even if the tickets are issued ?? I am aware that many times the fare shown in these sites change when we continue the booking and it takes to the airline site, but is the fare even not honoured once ticket booked and issued ?? |

oooh yes.... I'm the go to colleague for most of my indian colleagues at work and we booked AI 3 times so far where the price qouted beat US Air or bmi miles deals (;)) each time the price was around 1000$ for the high xmas season... expedia took the booking with confirmation number and all, then usually 2-3 days later a very apologetic employee calls to explain that AI didn't honor the fare and wouldn't allow them to issue the ticket. Since we usually organised alternatives on awards issued with purchased miles in business, the option of fighting AI for a JFKorORD-India 13-14h direct in Y vs a confirmed LX or LH C award didn't really make it worth the effort.
And if expedia shows this price, will the prices in other sites like travelocity or AI main site be much different ( though I m aware that AI online booking takes quite a while). My point is if expedia shows a fare which is not being found anywhere else (even within a approx range), then its probably not an updated one, but say we find the same fare in skyscanner or travelocity etc, then it should be available IMHO..The excuse that AI did not honour the fares may be to hide their own problem .. |
Methinks its more of a fare class availability problem: when expedia's engine books the segment in, the GDS doesn't come with the right response because the class is no longer available, but instead show it as booked. I have the same problem when I book UA segments using Amadeus.

If the fare being given by one site is a big way off all the others, them IME its not updated or wrong ..:td: But anyways, if its ticketed and I hv a PNR, I would want to fight for it, though I understand thats easier said that done.. |

However, LH is the one to fly if you want to get in directly to CCU from Europe - maybe EK or some others might also be a good bet.

I had Expedia change pricing on the tickets next day for us many times (only on Int'l tickets never domestic). I do not book Int'l tickets anymore on Expedia.

And I read that the service levels in EK is much better than LH IMHO and the prices are surely better.. |

EK is quite good infact.. LH flies directly to CCU only 3 times a week, whereas EK is 12 times a week ^

MUC-CCU LH : 11h, back 12.30h EK : 13h, back 14:50h Of course for the LH core market (fill the back of the transatlantic flights with ethnic VFR pax to Eastern Europe, Middle East and India) the connections between their 17 American Gateways and CCU via FRA is unbeatable, which makes up for the crummy Y and the even crummier FRA :p |
