Elite Points Question

Hey guys,

When it comes to Iberia Plus Elite Points, does 'Lowest Discount Economy' for the purpose of earning Avios translate to 'Economy Discounted' for the purpose of earning Elite Points on some partner airlines? i.e Fare classes Q, O, G, A, Z with Finnair has a rate of 0.25 Avios per 1 mile. Will that mean 90 Elite Points for a flight between 3.001 and 6.000 miles as opposed to 350 for Full Economy?

Hello, and another 'gold welcome' to IB+

Correct! Avoid K/L/M/V/S/N as there's no bang for buck there.

Just to point out that premium economy is probably the best value for elite points

Thank you very much!

With the changes with BA Executive Club, Iberia Plus seems to be a good choice for my travel habits and I am hoping it doesn't head that way too!

So just to reiterate, the lowest discounted economy on some partner airlines (below) will not earn elite points?
AA - B/N/O/Q/G
AY - Q/O/A/G/Z
BA - Q/O/G
JL - N/Q/O/G/Z
QR - G/O/W

If those fares wont earn elite points it will be a shame particularly with AA/BA and AY as I tend to fly with them in Economy on flights less than 3 hours!

Thank you again :)

It seems it from the table they have published and the published requirements! Thank you for confirming :)

My dilemma now is whether crediting all my flights from April 1 this year to my Iberia Plus would be a smart move as I have just requalified for Gold for this year with BA and my flights this year will only get me to BAEC Silver (Gold April 2025 - March 2026, Silver April 2026 - March 2027).

Funny you're the first to ask here whether switching to IB is a good idea!

We don't know when/if IB+ will make changes, we'll probably know by end of March, so you can decide where to credit those flights once we know.

But for now you can consider booking ASAP any IB/BA/AA flights to have them grandfathered into the old-distance method should IB+ follow BA; you won't get free seat selection with no-status IB# but you just want that initial confirmation email with IB#, and then you can change it back to BA to get the seats you want..

In any case you can start learning Spanish as the elite line don't do much English and a lot of IB+ ops need calling in...

IB+ requires a month's notice to change the programme, so we'll know by the end of February (not March) if they're going revenue-based from April.

I'm trying to calculate the number of Elite Points gained by flying domestic (Canaries to mainland) but I cannot find the fare basis code during the reservation process. Is there any way to look this up and find out the exact code before completing the booking?

Not the fare basis code but it tells you EP to be earned before the payment screen?

This is very useful as you know where you stand in terms of fare basis throughout the booking process.

I wish the Iberia website would offer the same during the booking stage as I have been looking at some short-haul ("big returns") flights in terms of tier points to another FFP but without seeing 'the letters' before I book it's all hypothetical...

Ah you're crediting to AY....

Well, you just have to work backwards...
100 JCD
74 RI
50 YBH
25 KMLFVSNG
15 QOA

Which matches the AY's table

95% of the time I would but this one time I'm curious how crediting LPA-MAD would work... on QF.

On the QF site it states that a one-way business class fare would earn 60 Status Credits. It also states that Iberia fare codes CDIJR are eligible but I'm not sure whether this is the entire spectrum of business class codes that Iberia uses?

On the Iberia site for the LPA-MAD flight I see a business claff tariff (cheapest one) titled 'Business Optima" but I have no idea what the fare code basis for this would be. Fingers crossed it's something from the CDIJR range? :)

IB is only JCDRI, and if QF treats them all the same, then the better/easier...

That's good news, many thanks! :tu: Makes QF crediting a whole lot easier if I decide to start racking up status there...

And thank you as well for the tip in looking up tier points in case I do need to credit to AY, as the system does show the amount to be credited to Iberia which you can then correlate as you mentioned to the fare basis chart.

The only problem I'm seeing now is that out of all the three business class options available at booking... they all seem to fall in the RI fares as it's offering me 75 status points (with Iberia) no matter which biz option I choose! So I guess JCD must be used in other (long-haul) flights and not those to the Canaries...
