AVIOS redemption Increase?

Did Iberia Avios increase redemption rate? For example, last year I booked NYC-BCN it was 20,000 AVIOS for Blue redemption, but now it seems to be 24,500 even on Blue?

Is it a nonstop flight? I sounds like a routing with transit in MAD bevause of the 4500 more Avios...

Does that mean, BA will follow suit and eliminate that nice Avios benefit - free UK connections on EU awards? Hopefully not...it was one area where Avios was indeed better than the others.

Makes sense

Ok that makes sense now, I thought I was losing my mind since it worked earlier this year for 20,000 from NYC-MAD-BCN one way.

Having the same flight number for the BCN connections (but needing to get off the plane and change gates) must have been a nightmare for Iberia staff to track down lost passengers.

Now it's clearer, but a side effect is that extra Avios are needed for redemptions.
