In other hotel chains, I seem to be able to consistently book a "weekend" rate for Thurs or Sun night....as long as I am also booking a Fri or Sat.

At Hyatt, it rarely happens. Is that fairly standard, or am I booking incorrectly?

I've never tried Thurs - but have for Sun - and it does work usually anyways.

I can't recall a weekend rate for Thursdays, but almost always for Sundays.

Most Hyatt properties regard Sunday as a weekend if you stay Saturday night (although I have pulled cheap Sunday only rates that cost more than weekend nights but less than a typical weekday). I almost never see Thursday counted as a weekend at Hyatt properties, even if you stay Friday night as well, for regular room rates.

Sometimes specific promo rates will allow Thursday to count as a weekend night as long as you are checking in for a two night stay. This is really dependent on the property, and you have to look at all the available room rates. The promo rates that allow this are not the AAA ones.

Thanks everyone - we usually do Thursday rather than Sun; and often use the AAA rate......so need to adjust both in the future and see what happens.

Slightly OT, also keep in mind that some Hyatts are in business areas where rates drop at weekends, and some are in "holiday"-type areas (around Disney) where the rates go up at the weekend. Of course, this doesn't just go for Hyatt.

Keep your eyes open this summer. Last night -- $83.75, including parking and breakfast plus G3 at Hyatt Regency Orange County (has Disneyland shuttle). Irvine was $60 more. I think all bets are off this summer on the usual patterns, although I agree with Firewind...

I yield to real experience. (Though I've stayed there many times.)

"Weekend" varies a bit by locale, and if resort or not. I vaguely recall hearing resorts tend to follow everyday-is-weekend. Also, some properties will extend a "weekend" to incl. holidays (i.e. 3 or 4-days long), which may vary by local custom. I once saw a biz Hyatt charging normal weekday rate on Thanksgiving (Thurs.) while down the road, another had a low wknd rate going.

On multi-night stays, esp. if they inc. wknds, I check each separate night on the website, too. I've sometimes caught the site quoting the higher 1st night rate for the entire stay, but checking each night separately revealed a mid-stay rate drop. Also, some pkgs only show if you enter the exact req. nights, so you may miss a deal if you just trust the site to give you the lowest quote on a multi-night. Takes work to try all the combos.

I booked this last weekend about 6 or 7 weeks ago -- I was playing around with various weekend stays to finish qualifying for Diamond and found an AAA rate (I think it was "Getaway"). Of course, with AAA rates, always use offer code BREAKF to ensure you get a full (buffet) breakfast.

I have found an interesting situation when trying different combinations of dates and rates. At times, if I find a really good AAA rate one night and the next night is higher, if I book it as a 2 night stay, the rate stays the same lower rate for both nights. Usually, I have found this with a Friday night stay continuing to a higher Saturday night rate, but also saw it work for a low Sunday night rate being extended to a Monday night. Looks like an incentive to fill beds on low occupancy dates by rewarding you for coming a day earlier.

Me, too. But I think this used to happen a lot more frequently.
