Globalist points advance reservation
So. I must be confused. I made a 7 night points advance (globalist) reservation at a hotel that recently change from cat 6 to. 7. Today I tried to officially apply my points as I needed to apply a SUA. Twitter charged me current points rates. Is this correct?

The SUA might complicate things since it can be considered a change to your reservation, so I'm not entirely sure for that part. But for the part about charging you full points, that should not be the case. I faced a similar issue at the Park Hyatt Saigon where I booked it as a 4 and it went to a 5. A week before check in, I noticed that they (Twitter Hyatt Concierge) charged me 40,000 instead of 30,000. Fortunately a call to the globalist line as well as a supervisor straightened it out. She credited me the 10,000 points difference.

You can apply a SUA to a regular booking that’s changed Categories, just not a points advance.

Points advance only looks in the availability, not the rate. The amount of points is based on when they're deducted from your account.

Based on that information it sounds like the only reason to book a points advance reservation would be if you’re afraid a property will sell out of base rooms for your dates.

I agree that the SUA has never been allowed to be applied unless the points have been deducted. I just never knew the points advance reservation would not be valid at the existing category level. Expensive mistake on my part as it is a 6 night reservation and 60k more points. To rub salt into my “wound” the reservation still shows the old category 7 level (total points 210000). Not 270000 that were actually deducted.

Globalist desk told me last week it should be based on points when booked (e.g., if booked a Cat 7 to Cat 8 two weeks ago for later this year, should get charged at Cat 7). Not sure what it does automatically but that should be the case if you call

thanks to all that posted. I am still not sure of the official policy but a quick call to the globalist line got the points back. I didn’t have the patience to wait for MHC. So I have learned the following. MHC if I can wait. Globalist line second. And worst case twitter (x). Thank you to the flyertalk community!

That is false. You can do a points advance and it does lock in the current rate. The points will be deducted automatically from your account 7 days prior to reservation - but you can call Hyatt and have them do it sooner. They will deposit points into your account to make up for the difference between current rate vs rate you locked it in at. However, if you make a date change - shorten your stay - that will revert to the currents point rate. Also, a GOH will change it to the current rate as well. You cannot apply a SUA to an advance points points reservation.

No. IF YOu do advance points and switch it to a Guest of Honor that is a change and it will change the current points rate.
You also cant make it a guest of honor until you have the points in your account and its confirmed. You can guest of honor it at any time, for the current points rate.
