To answer your question, based on the cpp ratio I would most likely use points for this stay. However, this depends on the overall rate - I'm more inclined to use points if the nightly rate is above $200. If we are talking about a $100/night vs. 5k points I may pay rather than spend points. Ultimately it's up to you to decide how much money you want to spend and to use points if the price is more than you are comfortable with.

Just two more points to consider: an award stay is not charged the "resort fee" which can be up to $20; free suite upgrades can't be applied to award stays. I usually use points when staying at resorts, since the cost of the stay is not business related and therefore out of my own pocket, sans tax break.

Me, too. A bit more than 1 cent per point.

Just wondering how your friend was able to convert/exchange his/her Hyatt GP points to Starwood SPG points??? Maybe I don't know some kind of point conversion.:D

another friend values 1.75 Hyatt = 1.0 SPG, is this high or low?

I think that's a little high - I would say 1.5 Hyatt = 1.0 SPG is about right. Of course this is a little subjective.

Thanks for your input

Collecting points or not?

Is there really such a value behind the points or is it pointless to value the points?

I could make now some nights for
  • 70 €. Each night would bring me 5k points.
  • 25 €. Each night would bring me 0 points because booked on a 3rd party website.

The calculation would be: 45 € = 5k points? Stay credits nor important because I already extended Diamond status.

Good value? Bad value? I am not sure? It would certainly not be a bad deal. However, what's the point in collecting more points?

How would you value Hyatt Points vs. Airline Miles??? I am looking to essentially spend the month of May in a Hyatt Place and would be very interested in the valuation opinion of the forum.

25,000 DL/UA Miles would equal __________ Hyatt Points. Please fill in the blank with your thoughts.

25,000 UA Miles would equal _20,000____ Hyatt Points
because 25K UA is one-quarter of a roundtrip business class flight to Europe. For me, 4 nights in Park Hyatt Paris or Zurich is roughly equal to that flight. That would be 22,000 points. However, because one has to pay taxes on airline awards but not on hotel awards, I'm discounting a bit for taxes.

25,000 DL Miles would equal _16,000____ Hyatt Points
because while I know theoretically DL business flights are also 100K to Europe, availability is nowhere near as good.
