I tipically redeem at ~2.5-3 cpp so that's how I value my points. Those redemptions are either overseas or high-end US properties during the peak season. I also tend not to hoard my points - currently I have award reservations that will drop my points total by ~300k points.
To answer your question, based on the cpp ratio I would most likely use points for this stay. However, this depends on the overall rate - I'm more inclined to use points if the nightly rate is above $200. If we are talking about a $100/night vs. 5k points I may pay rather than spend points. Ultimately it's up to you to decide how much money you want to spend and to use points if the price is more than you are comfortable with. |
my friend exchanged his 60K Hyatt for 48K SPG
is this fair? |

I value Hyatt at 1.1 cents. You could get more but I subtract because I am generally able to get rooms for much less using priceline or some other promotion.

Collecting points or not?
Is there really such a value behind the points or is it pointless to value the points?
I could make now some nights for
The calculation would be: 45 € = 5k points? Stay credits nor important because I already extended Diamond status. Good value? Bad value? I am not sure? It would certainly not be a bad deal. However, what's the point in collecting more points? |
How would you value Hyatt Points vs. Airline Miles??? I am looking to essentially spend the month of May in a Hyatt Place and would be very interested in the valuation opinion of the forum.
25,000 DL/UA Miles would equal __________ Hyatt Points. Please fill in the blank with your thoughts. |

25,000 DL/UA Miles would equal __________ Hyatt Points. Please fill in the blank with your thoughts. because 25K UA is one-quarter of a roundtrip business class flight to Europe. For me, 4 nights in Park Hyatt Paris or Zurich is roughly equal to that flight. That would be 22,000 points. However, because one has to pay taxes on airline awards but not on hotel awards, I'm discounting a bit for taxes. 25,000 DL Miles would equal _16,000____ Hyatt Points because while I know theoretically DL business flights are also 100K to Europe, availability is nowhere near as good. |
