Since the world seems on the cusp of an oil-induced global recession, maybe Hyatt will delay any changes by a few years?

K shaped economy. Recession for some but euphoric abundance for a growing group of many others.

Hyatt has not moved to dynamic pricing yet (although with more than 40 price points, one could argue it's getting close). Once the points "price" is set based on category and redemption level - lowest, low, moderate, upper, top - it will not change. The points price has historically been set annually, but there are instances of mid-year changes.

Yep I remember early 2000s days and how everything AI err i mean dot com was valued at recort levels... and 2008 when everything looked so great than one could get 3 mortgages without any income..

That being said, a crash will mostly impact paid rates promotions etc but it is less likely to change for example point categories.. spend points now when paid rates are nuts and spend cash when ppl stop spending money...

With massive flight cuts and lay offs starting now with more coming this summer along with the spiraling fuel prices and ticket price increases its anyones guess how this may affect hotel occupancy pricing and promotional efforts
Who could ever forget the Covid promotions when most abandoned travel?
Im booked through November now and wondering how we all may be affected.Italy Uk Australia Scandinavia are just some Ive already booked.Expecting higher costs with Hyatt devaluations/transportation etc but never thought of the likelihood of flight cancellations.
Could this be the summer from you know where? 🤔🫣

I spent so many absurdly cheap nights at Hyatt Regency Maui in late 2020 and early 2021. Remote work in a nearly empty hotel. And $99 flights if you could jump through the 24-hour testing hurdles. You felt great helping those people keep their jobs. If a recession comes, I want to be able to help tourism workers survive again.

Ventana Big Sur in 2020 at 30k net points per night was the best deal ever. The catch was that my SO got hooked on the place, and it will soon be 75k.

Ive managed to get my points balance to sub-8K and have used up all of my UR on 2+ CPP bookings. I actually need more points as I have several upcoming cash nights that would be good points redemptions at over 2 CPP. Unfortunately, I dont have many pending stays before May, so Ill be able to get one more 8K redemption in a few days to get my points balance down to near 0.

With these upcoming devaluations I may have to become a World of Hyatt Points loan shark

Was such a weird time to travel during COVID I chickened out a number of times.
Looks they will make back all those value discounts back in your very next stay from May on

It's almost the end of April. Are they going to announce the category changes or not?

The devaluation is having a big impact on award availability, with members burning points at aspirational properties in advance of the large price increases. I'm seeing particular impacts around the holidays in places like Thailand and the Maldives.

Not sure if there's a perfect place for this post, but with the upcoming devaluation, OMAAT posted an article tonight about Hyatt's CEO's comments about how a program needs to provide experiences, not just a place for points. Guessing this is the "buttering up" for what's coming next. Probably category changes tomorrow and they'll lie to me about how it's for my benefit.
