Andaz Macau REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

The exceedingly friendly staff at the Grand Hyatt Macau Grand Club mentioned that the Andaz at Galaxy Macau (shared with the JW, RC, Banyan Tree, etc) is planning to open at the end of this year.

I also noticed the Andaz logo on the Galaxy Macau shuttle bus umbrella at Taipa Ferry Terminal.

It does look like this one has been planned for a while based on news articles, but I couldn't find a Hyatt site for it from a quick Google search.

This one's been delayed for a while, but should hopefully open in Q4 this year assuming no more delays; I would imagine the website should come online in the next few weeks. I wonder if it'll make it though, seeing as the neighboring Raffles has been complete for a while and has gone radio silent re its planned opening.

It might be the summer holidays, and this is my first time in Macau, but the crowds seem to be back in full force. I would imagine the reopening of Mainland China has really helped the industry here - the staff at the GH insinuated as much.

The major attractions in Macau were packed when I went in March, and last weekend there were even more people. The local tourism industry is roaring back, even as China's overall economic recovery has been more muted.

Property to open on September 15 as announced today

Not on Hyatt’s reservation system yet, but more property info including room specs are available here on Galaxy Macau’s website

700+ keys, one restaurant, a bar and an “Andaz Lounge”, rooms start at 35sqm/380sqft

SHLTP Aug 10, 2023 8:50 pm

Glad to see this but... Why do so many of the new Andaz have such tiny rooms? 35 sqm seems very small and, if Macau is like Singapore, they won't have many standard suites.

Regular rooms in Singapore are tiny. I haven't seen them but have been told the rooms at the new Andaz Nanjing are tiny and terrible. Your think a luxury position would push for bigger rooms

Now open for booking for September stays. If anyone goes, let us know. I have a Macau trip in Nov - trying to decide whether to stay here, GH or JW.

Seems JW reviews better than GH. Let's see on Andaz...

It was originally launched as C4 couple of days ago but has since been revised to C5 as of 19 August

I visited this property recently after its opening in September. As I wasn't sure what to expect, I stayed at Grand Hyatt Macau first and visited this property prior to my actual stay. However, I canceled my reservation at Andaz Macau after my visit and extended my stay at Grand Hyatt.

Here's why:
1/ Hotel location is inconvenient. It is 10 minutes walking distance from W and 15 minutes walking distance from Parisian. There is only one entrance currently which is directly facing JW but there is no pavement to walk. I had to walk on the road and jay walk as the zebra crossing is under construction. There is no overhead bridge or underground tunnel connecting to JW/Ritz/the Galaxy complex. The shuttle bus from airport/border gate/ferry terminal will not take you directly Andaz. Rather, the bus will go to Galaxy and then you need to transfer to a smaller bus or walk over to Andaz. From the hotel entrance it is another 200m walk to the first floor reception and from there you need to take the lift to the 6th floor for check in at the lobby.
2/ Lack of accessible amenities. Within the hotel building, there is only one restaurant and one bar, namely the Andaz Kitchen and the Andaz Bar, respectively. There are no other restaurants, shops, casinos etc. You need to walk over to JW side to enjoy all the amenities, which to me is quite a hassle.
3/ Very low occupancy rate. I walked around the first and second floors and did not see any other guests. On the sixth floor, there's probably less than 10 guests having dinner at the Andaz Kitchen and a poor bar with no visitors. I prefer staying at a hotel where at least there's some people around, not one with barely a soul.

On the hindside,
1/ Low occupancy rate = great chances of upgrading / late check out. As globalist I was proactively offered upgrade to Andaz Suite and late check out. Mind you this is a resort/casino property so they are under no obligation to provide 4pm check out
2/ Great convention property. There is a massive convention hall on the first floor so this property will be really convenient should you be in Macau for a convention at this specific spot. Other than that, I see no reason staying at Andaz Macau. Grand Hyatt is in a better location, with a fantastic grand club and breakfast spread while offering generous room upgrades, albeit with older rooms.

Hotel entrance. As you can see, very low occupancy rates with the number of lights on.

totally agreed. Grand Hyatt will be my go-to in Macau.

while i didn't stay at Andaz Macau yet, i found its location is pretty hard to get to. I walked across 2 streets to get there from JW marriott and found the area is very desert, only the convention center and big arena. no dining outlets or shops to be found. The building is also not tall so the view is to be nothing special.

I guess the Andaz will be more interesting and more accessible after the MASSIVE galaxy phase 4 (opposite to both JW and Andaz) has been completed as i saw the overhead bridge connected from that construction to both JW and Andaz.

BTW, i stayed at W Macau and i personally thought W would be the clear winner. I felt like the management here came from the SPG era. both hardware and software are above W standard. Location is not bad either. Worth giving a try at least.

I'm here now. Just checked in. The location isn't convenient as everyone posted. Not easy to get to and have to take a taxi to get anywhere. I have a conference tomorrow at Grand Hyatt but wanted to try this - staff said it'd be a 90 mop taxi to GH. Not convenient to get to any of the casinos too it seems, esp if hot outside.

I was upgraded to an Andaz Suite. It's nicely appointed and of decent size - they gave me 2 of the largest and best tasting pears I've ever seen in my life and a great tray of amenities. They also knew all my preferences, from humidifier to extra water.

So service is good so far and front desk staff super welcoming. So was GM in communication prior to arrival. They offered 4pm late check out

Gun is excellent. Spacious with heavy 30 kgs dumbbells. I don't like how too many hotel gyms only go up to 20 kgs. Can get an excellent work out here

I haven't been to breakfast yet.

But it is a nice looking hotel ... Just the location is not great. There's no restaurants nearby. Really nothing. It's like a hotel on top of a convention place. My guess is it'll do a great trade for conferences but not great if you want to gamble. Just stay at the casinos or GH type spot.

But overall, I'm happy I cancelled my GH reservation and moved here even though GH offered suite with fountain view in advance for me. Prices are almost half of GJ and I like to save money.

Thanks for sharing. I find it ironic that a C5 hotel is half the price as that of its nearby C4 option.

If you want to save on the taxi fare, the monorail line is located on the main road outside of Andaz (c. 3 min walk from lobby) and is 6 MOP for a 10-15 min ride to the station right next to GH. You can pay with a credit card for the ticket.

Ok. Eating breakfast now - what an awesome spread. Lots of different berries, Greek yogurt, great Chinese food and wonderful selection of nuts including macadamia. I've never seen macadamia nuts in a hotel buffet

Location not great but everything else is awesome. I'd definitely stay here again.

I'm not a gambler so I have no idea if location is good for gambling or what gamblers like... And this is fsr from old town but for a too quality hotel, this is what an andaz should be like.

If there were all this good, I'd be happy and loyal to Andaz. I wish this place was within driving distance of where I live. I'd come all the time

Isn't it connected to Galaxy Macau and across the street from the Venetian?

It's directly across the street from JW Marriott. I walked from Galaxy outside - I'm not sure there is covered walkway. I don't think there is. That could get uncomfortable in Macau summer

I took the LRT to Grand Hyatt. 3 stops and very convenient.

I'm not sure how fast the walk would be to Venetian. It looked fairly close but everyone said the walk to Grand Hyatt which is across from venetian wouldn't be easy
