Question about modifying reservation

If I make a points reservation for, say, five nights, and later decide to cut it back to four, could that be a problem if points reservations are no longer available online for those days I booked? Or is the Hyatt reservations agent able to change it from five to four, regardless of availability?

If it is a problem, I supposed my alternative is to make points reservations for each day individually, then cancel any if necessary. But that's more of a hassle.

Thanks for any advice.

I had that issue once and was initially told it couldn’t be done. But eventually it was done manually. You might first be told there is no availability but ask for help and it might happen. If there is any doubt you might reduce your stay then individual nights is safer.

it used to be no problem. That was standard operating procedure for how to work around hotels gaming of award availability with high minimum stay requirements. So if you searched for 3 days and didn't find it, but it was there with 7, then book 7 and have an agent manually reduce down to 3.

That changed about a year ago I believe such that it requires the availability.

The only drawback to booking individually is that a hotel might not recognize it and you could need to move rooms, or that if you're trying to apply TSU on top then it is only good for a single stay, so you'd have to have your reservations merged in order to apply a single TSU.

Nowadays this seems like totally ymmv situation. So don't count on it but always try. And yeah, you may decide that the individual days is your best (though inconvenient) option.
