Using Points to book for someone else

My wife is traveling solo soon and needed two separate reservations at a Hyatt Property.

Although she has membership with WoH, she basically has no points but wanted to arrange an award stay. So I booked both nights with points (one as an award and the other as points and cash) using my account. Since she's the only one staying, the room was booked as single occupancy. As a result, when I tried to add her name to the reservation online, I found I could not.

So I called Hyatt and explained the situation. The agent said that the reservation would have to be in her name and that they would transfer the reservation to her. Sure enough, a few minutes later I got confirmation emails that the reservation had been rebooked under her name and had been removed from my account.

> However, after the transfer I noticed that the points had been redeposited into my account. I don't know how this is supposed to work when she attempts to check in since she does not have enough points to cover either reservation and the reservation no longer appears to be linked to me.

Any ideas what will happen when she checks in?

it sounds like the rep messed up. Although you cannot see the reservation under your account, the points should have been deducted immediately and you should see the points deduction under "My Past Activity" in your account

Thanks for the reply.

From my side it is as if the reservations never existed. No related point activity is visible under "My Past Activity".

Seems my options are:
• Transer points to my wife's account using the form and hope these will be synched to the reservations that are now in her name.
• Cancel the reservations, rebook under my name with double occupancy and add my wife noting that she'll be checking in first / instead

I would call and ask why the points were not deducted from your account. If they can't explain why, I would cancel and try booking again with another rep.

This has happen to me two times recently, the reservation was made, points deducted for one reservation, when I had them change something on the reservation, for some reasons points were put back in. When I checked into hotel there were no issues and the points still have not been deducted. The second time, award stay of three nights, reservation changed to add TSU, points were taken when first made reservation, then TSU was deducted. For some reason, hotel updated reservation and points and TSU were redeposited, but reservation holds. I will see what happens when i check-in. My account holds ample points and TSUs - so I assume one day they will figure it out

Is there any way to make a reservation online using someone else's points or free night certificates?

Nope. Concierges can do it for Globalists (I pull awards from my spouse that way).

Just wanted to check - if someone else (no status) uses their points to book an award reservation in my name/account (and they would not be traveling with me), I would receive my Globalist benefits? For another trip where they would be traveling with me, is it best to do the same thing so we can use my Globalist benefits?

Who books the reservation doesn’t matter. It’s who stays. Assuming the reservation and account number of the person with status is on the reservation.

I think the points need to be moved to your account and you make the booking. Otherwise, it seems to me that if your friend makes the booking, it's going to retain the status of that friend.

for a points stay, the account holder that is using their points, that account must stay on the reservation. If you want your globalist benefits you need your account to be on the reservation. you can show your globalist status to the desk and hope they give you glob benefits but it is not an expectation that they do so.

At the time of booking, they can request CS to assign your membership number on that booking.

Thanks all - in the past I've booked free night awards for other people and my status didn't attach to those reservations (the booking followed the person staying's status) so I wasn't sure if it was the same for points. Only one way to find out, I'll report back after the stay!
