I've had a look at the FAQ, but this didn't seem to be covered. I've got a cash and points reservation at one of the hotels that's dropping a category in October. The FAQ indicates that I'll get some points back in August, which is lovely, but what about the cash part? Will that automatically get dropped on the reservation to match the new lower level's cash-part of cash-and-points, or do I need to do something after the 1st of August to get that changed too?

Hi Gagravarr,

You will want to contact Hyatt Gold Passport Customer Service after August 1st or send us a private message and we will be more than happy to assist with the adjustment.

My exact thoughts when I saw HP Portland on there! I stay in Portland several times a year too, but never on points, so I'll just go with whichever of the two properties has the better rate (although I'll definitely pick the new HH in downtown if it's not much more.) It just doesn't make sense for the HP to go up to category 3 when the new property in a MUCH better location will also be a category 3. I suspect that the new HH will be a category 4 by next year's award chart changes, though. :(

As usual, the pain vs. pleasure is one-sided. A bunch of properties were great value on points versus cash rates (anything near San Francisco and many of the Dallas ones) so we feel their loss.

On the other hand, we already ignored the award category of places such as the HR Phuket, since it was so easy to get cheap BRG rates anyhow.

Apart from that, it's hard to imagine a Category 1 Park Hyatt (Chennai) and it's great to see the GH Kuala Lumpur at Category 3 for some great C+P + DSU awards...

I'm happy that few (or none) of my destinations have gone up: Montreal, Milwaukee still 2, DT Savannah Regency still 3, Andaz still 4; HR Toronto, HR Sarasota FL still 3.

I haven't been to Australia in 9 years, but it's nice to see Perth 4 --> 3. Indeed, I'm surprised it isn't going to 2 given its rates around A$200/ US$150 a night! And maybe I'll try Centric South Beach as a new 4, maybe with my Chase Visa Anniv. night :) !

More on the bright side: No Hyatt is becoming a 6 nor 7 :D !

That's the way Hyatt works. Incompetence. I sent them an email a week ago to combine some points, you think anything has been done so far?

Go straight to the social media team. They usually get it done within a day.

Is it just me or has the GH DFW Airport changed categories almost every time the award chart changes? lol

Not that it affects me, but just something I've noticed...

Every Hyatt combine points email I've sent gets done the same day. I even had one come back in 2 hours.

Seems like pretty reasonable changes.

Sorry, but I don't agree that these changes are minor. Domestic Category 1s got annihilated. Sure, plenty of properties overseas went down, but as mentioned above, I can get good cash rates overseas.

I stay on P+C rates a lot, probably 20 nights so far this year, and I can see this definitely is going to switch some stays away from Hyatt.

OTOH, 4 different Phoenix properties dropped to Cat 1. Is there a problem with Phoenix, other than the heat? :D

I wasn't even aware there was a Hyatt in Asheville NC, but now disappointed that it'll be jumping from 1 to 3.

Bummer @ so many NorCal properties moving up in Category. Sucks @ HRSF + HRSFO. And Pleasanton a 3? Silly.

You may have noticed that those Bay Area Hyatts had been providing zero P+C availability, because they can fill up with paying guests. One of the few things I do know abut the HGP system is that franchisees get a larger reimbursement if they move up to a higher category. So, really, Hyatt was facing reality in moving these up a category. A higher category may get them to stop playing so many tricks with members.

The logic doesn't change the fact that I won't be staying at any of them anymore.

Welp, given their occupancy rates... im not sure the NorCal hotels care so much about point stayers or P+C folks.

That's really not true at all. I've seen lots of P+C availability at GH, HR, and HR SFO.

HR SFO was a particularly screaming deal at $55 + 4000 points. Booked that several times last year. Mattress ran several of the east bay HP/HH last December at the same rate.

Both Hyatt Place properties in Baja California (Los Cabos and La Paz) going from a Category 2 to Category 1.

This is Christmas come early for me.

I've also had P+C at HRSC.
