On a related question, how many people actually move from one property to another multiple times in an area? I have two stays of six days each coming up, and I expect to be moderately busy in both places. In this situation, is it common to move from one property to another each day? (I won't do it on these two stays because I'm using my last two DSUs from last year.)

I have been switching every night for the past few weeks (I stay about 3-4 nights per week). I can't hit 50 nights for diamond so 25 stays has been much more realistic for me to hit. I am in SLC though for my client and there are about 6 different hyatt places/houses for me to choose from so it works quite well.

Umm, most people get 2-3 weeks vacation, so that doesn't even come close to 25 nights, much less 25 stays. And many of us prefer to spend an entire week at a single location rather than checkin/checkout every night.

So you may not need to be a "road warrior" in the classic sense (traveling every week) but you basically need a couple of trips every months, with Hyatts in every location, or perhaps a retiree who stays in cheapo Hyatt House type properties.

Personally I am in the program to redeem for Andaz and Park Hyatt, not out-of-the-way suburban dumps.

Where did I say anything about "most" or "easy"? I just said you don't have to be a corporate road warrior to hit 25 stays. Do you somehow dispute that???

Personally, I take lots of long weekends and one or two longer trips per year, plus some amount of business travel. Will wind up with approx. 50 stays this year, split among Hyatt and Hilton, plus a couple Marriott and "other."

OP never said that you said "most" or "easy". And actually yes he did dispute it. Did you read the entire post? LOL.

Yes. Obviously you did not.

If 25 stays were easy you would see loads of SPG Plats.

LOL obviously you didn't. Note where his quotes are. The first one that you quoted was following a reply to ME not YOU. Read what he said AFTER your quote. And he didn't say that you said most people could do it. He said that MOST people only get such and such amount of vacation.

In addition to your example, is someone who gets Diamond on stays spending $2700 at Hyatt Places (or less withC&P) worth more to Hyatt than someone who spends $10-$20K on a few stays at a Park Hyatt but doesn't meet the 25 stays for Diamond? Not hoping that changes, but it has got to be on some of the hotels radars with it being so widely publicized.

I'd think they'd care more about profitability. With labor costs up and lots of costs in a full service, I wouldn't automatically assume a lower rate HP would be less profitable than a PH or GH.

Ok - stop with the bickering.

I might get one business stay a year if I'm lucky. Mostly it's 25 stays all on leisure, and I don't get tons of vacation time. Currently rocking 14 stays/14 nights in my account with only one mattress run

So do you a lot of 1 night trips or do you hotel hop?

Both. Usually will just do a Saturday night in closer destinations like Chicago, DC or NYC. West coast trips I'll hotel hop between the O8/GH/HP in Seattle, the GH/HRs in Denver or the GH/HR/Centric in SF. If I'm forced to stay more than one night in the same Hyatt (for example Portland, ME or Portland, OR), I'll do one night or more on straight points and one night on cash so end up only getting one night/stay credit.

Any current diamond challenge offers. I will be booking about 14 nights (4 stays) this month in Japan and S.Korea and would like to be able to get back to Diamond again. Don't care about upgrades etc. (I personally don't believe that upgrade certs should be given until the specified number of stays have been completed) I just want the opportunity..

RTW1 Aug 13, 2016 4:24 am

No... currently no generic offer. You can always try contacting GP.

Mary2e Aug 13, 2016 6:17 am

Nothing going on right now. I suspect Hyatt is waiting for last year's "mistake" upgrades to all expire before offering one again.

Transcon for MR's

I recall sometime like 2005, the 10k bonus per stay in CT. So, did an SFO-BDL to take advantage. Also, a three week trip in SE Asia during some promo that involved moving around a bit (actually, too much) to max out stays, though we did have the good sense to just hang at the GH Beijing (pre PH days,) rather than run down to Tainjin and back. And, of course the IAD or ORD area Hyatt MRs are always good ones even now.

Often, I found 25 stays to have been a problem, but not lately, though I am only feeding SPG and IHG (PLT and RA/Spire,) as I can really only justify about 125 nights per year in hotels, and Hyatt is not doing it for me, location and pricewise, so I'll maintain PLT on Hyatt but no higher. I did like the guaranteed club and breakfast feature as well as the DSU's, when available, with Hyatt DIA, but I'm usually able to do all that at SPG and IHG, without the guarantee of course.

Hilton likely minted far more "instant Diamonds" for a longer period of time than Hyatt did, and they are still offering a challenge to this day. I guess they've found it to be worthwhile..

I was a DIA "mistake" child last year.:o;), but they hooked me line, sinker, and bait all in one. :D, Will be re-qualifying for DIA sometime in the next 2 months.^ I travel mostly for leisure though, so it will take a bit longer for qualifications. Am definitely liking the "mistake" DSU x 4 at their finer worldwide properties. ^

HH status matched my H-DIA status immediately, but I have yet to use them at all, as all my stay are with HYATT or SPG properties.
