By the very nature of it being an airport Hotel, it gets a lot of people arriving later in the day and departing in the morning, so they can be pretty flexible with requests. Having status obviously helps.

I stayed there last week, arriving at 7am and departing the next day at 8.30am and had no problem checking in at 7am.

It's like most Hotels, they will do them but they may want to charge you. depending what time you want to leave.

You can only ask.

Stayed in king club deluxe room for 1 night. The room is huge with sofa and coffee table, king size bed and desk + 2 chairs and TV stand in the main room, there's an entrance hall, dressing room and the bathroom also (all for W20,000 or $20 more than an standard club room). Nice view from the window but no flat screen TV (thought most Hyatt had lcd/plasma screens by now).
Club lounge has amazing views of the airport at night, food and beverages all to the usual Korean Hyatt standard and staff in the lounge are really helpful. Staff in the rest of the hotel appear busy, no valet arrived at my car so I had to park and carry the bags myself. The 8 restaurants they have looked good, but I didn't eat their.
Shuttle bus to the Airport is every 20 mins and takes 5-10 mins, but you can walk it in 15 (will be longer depending on your luggage situation)

Is this hotel a good option for one day's stopover in Seoul, or should I spend a FFN downtown instead? How easy/expensive is access to the city center?

What time do you get into ICN and what time do you depart the next day? What do you actually want to do? Unless you have more than 24-hours and can afford to rent a limo for travel, Seoul is a difficult city to see much of if you are flying in and out of the airport. Until the rail link is completed right into the city centre, the limo buses take about 90 minutes in each direction to most parts of the city, and though costs less than Tokyo's, is still relatively expensive for a few hours in the city.

The airport authority does offer a special 6-hour bus tour highlighting the city's sights for those transiting through the airport and have enough time. This might be your best option, again depending upon the hours of your arrival and departure, and what you want to see/do in Seoul. In this case, if the timing works, yes, this is a good place to overnight, either taking the tour after your arrival (if you get in in the morning) or before your departure (if you leave the next day in the late afternoon/evening).

Provide more details and we can give you a more definitive answer. Otherwise, check out the airport's web site to see if this Transit Tour is what you need to get onto.

I was there on an FFN in Jan. Great hotel. Maybe the nicest airport hotel I've stayed in, and much appreciated at the end of a long flight. They had us check in upstairs in the lounge, which we got to just in time for happy hour. Nice food, and very helpful staff. The next day we checked out in the lounge, they called a limo taxi for us to go on the the W Walkerhill and we had a cup of tea in the lounge while we waited. The limo taxi was about $110 in the end, but we had a baby and lots of luggage with us and couldn't face the shuttle bus to the downtown bus. The Hyundai Equs limos are pretty cool, and will be available in the US soon.

The lounge nibbles and breakfast were nice and artfully presented. They have a great coffee machine, and make excellent leaf tea in little personal french presses. Seoul seems to have a gourmet tea fad, but it can be very expensive in tea shops.

Koreans also love high end spirits. There were a few bottles our for the evening happy hour, which started just as we arrived. The one I remember was Johnny Walker Gold sitting there for self service. Just the thing after a long flight in economy with a young child!

The pool is also very nice. As in Japan it is very important to wear a hair net and shower right before getting into the pool. In fact the hotel felt rather Japanese to me in general, though a cool robot figure in the lobby made of old TVs reflected the Korean video art tradition.

The amenity is still a little pack of chocolates and a very pleasant bottle of wine.

All in all this made me very glad that I'd regained Diamond status a week before.

While the hotel certainly sounds nice, is it within walking distance of anything? (non-hotel restaurants, Inchon city?)

Nope, the hotel is directly across from the airport and train station - that's within walking distance Otherwise there are just a few government and aviation buildings close by and didn't look like there were any restaurants in those (but I'm not 100% certain). Downtown Incheon is 30 mins away. It's a perfect hotel for a 12-24 stopover. Anything longer, your better off going to Seoul.

This is what was written about the building "AIRJOY" thats right around the corner from the Hyatt... It also has an "E-Mart" grocery store inside, so limited food items should be available... I do remember seeing it the last time I was there, but didnt stop by...

The Air Joy shopping mall occupies over 16 acres (6.5ha) and is made up of three floors underground and nine above. Local supermarket chain E-Mart was the first to open an outlet during the initial opening in April, followed by a grand opening of all floors in June.

The airport authority said Air Joy aspired to be among the world's first “Shoppertainment Malls”, where residents from the Incheon area and international travellers are given “a feast for the eyes, a gamut of entertainment and things to enjoy, as they look and browse for their favourite shopping items”.

Highlights include four themed areas. The World Star Museum, dubbed the airport’s answer to Madame Tussaud's, features wax likenesses of 41 celebrities including David Beckham, Madonna, Asia’s superstar Bae Yong-joon and Park Chan-ho.

The Toy Story 3 area displays toys such as robots that climb walls and a collection of 1,000 Smurfs. Memory Lane is an area where people can experience life as it was in Korea from the 1950s to the 1970s in make-believe comic book shops, coffee shops with a coal stove, rice mills and small shops; they can buy traditional snacks and play games.

The Atrium is a multi-storey viewing area constructed in an open-space arrangement equipped with see-through elevators. Here audiences can view performances on the first floor from terraces above.

It was late when I got the hotel and didn't notice this place it is directly behind the hotel, I'll have to check it out next time. From the sound of it there should be plenty of restaurants inside.

The lobby connects to a casino with good blackjack rules. There's a small restaurant in the casino with Korean food - no charge (assuming you're a player).

Thought I should add an update that in a follow up online review from Hyatt, I commented on lack of valet parking on arrival (only because it was offered on the hotel website). A few days later I received a personal e-mail from the hotel manager stating that they were addressing the matter and hoped it didn't affect my stay etc, etc...I replied that it was only a minor comment. Nice to have this level of customer service from a hotel.

We arrive ICN at 4:30 PM and depart the next day at 12:30 PM. I'm trying to decide whether to:

  • Book a free award stay at the Grand Hilton Seoul (where as a Diamond I'll get lounge access but have to travel ~45 minutes each way).
  • Pay for a fairly pricey Club room at the Hyatt ICN (I have no Hyatt status).

I like the convenience of the Hyatt, but I'm wondering what the Club lounge is like currently?

Is breakfast continental or is there a more extensive spread?

In the evening, are food/drinks available within a window (like 5:30-7:30) or for a more extended timeframe?

TIA.
