The Westin is the most remote of all Macau hotels. If you're there to golf, or swim at the sea, or just overnighting through Macau's airport, sure. But if you want to sightsee, no.

Other true 5* hotels are the Mandarin Oriental and the new Landmark.

Another mention is the Pousada de Sao Tiago, a boutique hotel located in an old fort.

Those 4 are incidentally the most expensive 4 hotels in Macau, together with Hotel Lisboa. But I think Lisboa's rate is high because many room are actually comped out to gamblers, and other gamblers may also don't mind the higher rates for the location.

I disagree - Macau is so small that the fact that the Westin is at the other end from the main tourist sites (fort, church, etc.) really doesn't matter to me - it's only a 20 minute <US$10 taxi ride. And it is a nice hotel in a nice location, with Fernando's just a short walk along the beach if you are so inclined.

Whatever you do don't take a bus to/from the airport. Theres only two private companies that operate service and are very unreliable and from my experience were very rude to foreigners (American and Japanese tourists).

The best thing about Macau is the ferry ride home
