Self transfer is this enough time?
Hi I wanted to ask if anyone had experience with this.
Im flying to HKG 12/21 I would land 19:05 according to the ticket using Cathay Pacific ( I have this ticket purchased already)
I'm trying to get to Bangkok
I have 3 options that I can book separately
1) Thai - 20:45
2) Airasia - 22:25
3) Cathay Pacific - 20:25 (seperate ticket)
I read that Thai has a transfer desk? so I wouldn't need to leave the and re enter? But if I picked airasia I would need to leave and redo everything? Would Cathay pacific be better even though its a separate ticket but the problem is its a short layover. Which one would you recommend or any info regarding this?

One factor is whether or not you have checked bags. If you have checked bags, are you able to through-check your bags? I don't know if CX will allow this, and if whether or not the second ticket is also on CX makes a difference. If you have checked bags and cannot through-check, then you have to claim your bags and re-check them yourself, which means you have to clear Immigration both entering and leaving Hong Kong, and have to check your bags on the departing flight before the deadline. For options 1 and 3, you definitely won't have time for all of that. Option 2 would be okay, assuming that your inbound flight is on time.

Cathay will check through bags to (interline) partners on separate tickets. So they'd be checked through to either their own flight or the Thai flight, but not to the AirAsia flight (LCCs don't do interlining).
1h20 is well above Minimum Connecting Time at HKG and 2h20 would be plenty to go landside, collect and recheck your bags, so, in principle, any of those options would be fine (assuming your passport allows you entry to HK). Obviously the longer the transit the more allowance for delays, but I'd probably take the Cathay option if not significantly more expensive than the Thai, or the Thai if significantly cheaper just to avoid the baggage hassle.

Thanks I will have no checked luggage. I booked the CX flight it was like $20 more than the Thai flight. But I wouldn't have to go through immigration? Because I can head to the transfer desk they can print me a ticket to BKK?

I would expect that you could check-in online for both flights in advance. If you have the CX app then you can simply use that to check in and present the mobile boarding passes whenever needed. It's perfectly possible to be paperless.
