Conrad or W?
I will be staying one night on the way back from a trip to Bali next month and trying to figure out best hotel to stay at between W or conrad.
I am Hilton Diamond and SPG Gold. We arrive at 9pm and depart the next morning 11am. Any help with what hotel would be better is appreciated! Trying to read the threads on things to do while im there. Hopefully its enough time to have some fun. |
I haven't stayed at the W, so can't comment on that. I had a recent stay at the Conrad, though, and was more than satisfied. It was a nice property and was conveniently located.
For such a short stay, though, it may just be best for you to stay at an airport hotel. |

I really want to keep it between these two based on points to use. I knew we would be cutting it close but assumed HK stayed up late....
Just checked the flight and I leave at 12pm, so an extra hour ha.... |
What day of the week would you be in HK?
if you're looking to head out to the bars for drinks then I would recommend Conrad as it is closer to Lan Kwai Fong. Major bars and clubs there will stay open till at least 3am from Sun-Thurs and even later on Fridays and Saturdays. |
I will be there Sunday night.
Bars would be good, I really would like some good food. Is Dim Sum possible that late? |
I would suggest the W as it is very close to the Airport Express Kowloon station. You can go directly through the Elements shopping mall which makes getting in and out easier than the Conrad.
You can take the MTR or taxi to/from LKF depending on how late you stay up. |
If you're staying for 2 or more nights, I like Conrad over W. W and the whole Element complex are a bit isolated. On the other hand, Conrad is in a great location atop Pacific Place mall and a pleasant stroll across HK Park to the Peak Tram. You're also within 1-2 stops of Central, TST and Causeway Bay.
But for such a short time, I'd probably go with W. For one, it's convenient to the Airport Express. The harbour view from W's Harbor View rooms is probably better than the Kowloon-facing view from Conrad's. If you can get to the hotel by 10-10.30pm, I'm sure you'll be able to find some restaurants still open in the Elements complex. There's a Lei Garden there. Good dim sum is hard to find at night. Only places I've had dim sum type dumplings at night have been at Tasty's in IFC which probably closes ~10pm and at mediocre places in TST. You may be able to catch some dim sum as part of your hotels' breakfast buffet. Never had breakfast at W, but Conrad's breakfast buffet features 5-6 steamed dim sum items... not the best, but still pretty decent. |
The time difference between getting to the W and the Conrad is probably only 15 mins.
The W is right next to the Elements mall and Conrad is right above Pacific Place. But at that time the OP arrives nothing will be open. If I were the OP I would stay at the Conrad, check in, freshen up. Go hit LKF for a few drinks. Get supper at Tsui Wah (24 hr restaurant). Go back and sleep. Wake up, check out from hotel. Take taxi to Lin Heung Tea House for some old school dim sum. They open really early. http://www.openrice.com/english/rest...sr1map&con=box |
I'd take the W. While it's only 15 more minutes to get to the Conrad on Sunday Night, you may need to allocate more time for the transfer from the Conrad back to the Airport Express on Monday morning on a working day in Central. From the W, you know exactly when you can get to the train.
And a taxi from the W to Knutsford Terrace for food and drinks won't take more than 5 minutes and US$3 more than a taxi from the Conrad to LKF on a Sunday night. |

I'd stay at the Conrad
W is in the middle of nowhere. Conrad is in a great spot on the island. Can walk down to Wanchai and find whatever you want.

Well, that poster does have a point, if the OP is indeed looking for "something" in Wan Chai, while not looking for "other things" on say, Portland St. :p
