Is there priority security in HKG?
Like the topic says, is there priority security in HKG or does everyone funnel through the same spout? I'm flying back to Canada in J and wasn't sure if this is like CDG where you get a gold ticket!
I've done searches and can't find anything so far which tells me this probably doesn't exist. Thoughts? Thx |
not that i am aware of
|
Of course, even without a priority line it only takes about 5 mins to go through security in HKG.

And the experience is way better than what CATSA or TSA give you.

To be fair, that depends on the kind of experience one is looking for.
|
As others said, no priority, but it is very fast.
|
I've never had it take more than 5 minutes. I wish YYZ/YUL/YVR could learn from these people.
|
True... the few times I've been there the lines have gone by quickly but I guess in this day of instant everything I was hoping for something even quicker! :) Thanks guys!

Valid as of last (mid) week at HKIA from our traveling family members - standard airport X-rays for carryons, quick walk-thru the standard metal detectors, laptop & 1-Qt. ziplock bag out, and cellphone/wallets/coins tossed inside the backpack (small trays available) and it's a very quick, efficient, and a quick sweep with the hand-held airport/courthouse security wand.
There's enough security personnel on hand to help keep their eyes on your belongings as it's passed thru the x-ray and while you are on the very short line queued for the walk-thru. Probably took 3 or 4 minutes top - same as it was a month ago when I went thru myself, both arriving from/departing to JFK and twice in transit to SGN and PVG. It's a breeze compared to the TSA/CATSA dog & pony show now shown on youtube everywhere. Process and procedures are so efficient and fast that there's zero needs for an elite, priority or status lane. For flights departing to the US, there's secondary screening for carryon luggage & passport checks at the boarding gates, which is "secured" from other domestic/international departures due to TSA - but it's a rush job in the form of a "peek-a-poo" screening mostly for 3 oz+ liquid & usually just as quick. (Yes, that bottled juice, sports drink or soda that you just brought inside the secured airside terminal's shops cannot be taken onto the plane, finish it/drink it or dump it - silly but true ..... |
I was at HK airport a few days ago. Took less then 10 minutes all up, with luggage collection and all. Australia really needs to learn from this, but they never will *sigh*
|
I just hope one day my luggage can come up faster at the belt. Yesterday I wait 15 minutes after immigration (25 min after landing) to collect my luggage (and it is already with priority tag....)
Well I am HK citizen and I only need 30s for immigration :p |
I've been through HKG many times in the last 5 years, and passing security has always been a breeze (10 min. tops) The professionalism of the security personal there make the USA TSA agents look like thugs.
|
The immigration lines after the security check can be longer (slower) than the security lines. There is a priority line for HKIA Frequent Visitors -- you can apply for a card on their website if you can prove you've been through HKIA a certain number of times over a certain period (not sure the current qualifications). But no general Business/First class line for this either.
