Why are the elevators at Hampton Inns SO SLOW??

Definitely a pet peeve of mine (though obviously not the end of the world)....anyone else noticed this across the board?

Yep. I always thought that hydraulic elevators were the slow ones and because HI's were generally 4 stories or less, they were candidates for hydraulic elevators. Maybe cheaper or be cheaper to insure :) . I could be way wrong of course.

Grandma likes slow elevators

Let's not forget that the Hampton caters to the AARP crowd.

At least they now have the 'make you smile' pics on the inside of the doors!

How fast would you like to go from the main floor to the second? ½ second? :D

I thought it was just me that was annoyed by this! :D

I stay pretty regularly at the HI Flemington NJ. It is the SLOWEST elevator I have ever been in.

They want to give you time to view and enjoy the artsy photos adorning the elevator doors. :)

And all along I thought it was just that the pygmies up top couldn't pull the cable fast enough.

Not true at all HIs

Recently stayed at the Hampton Inn - SEA (4 floors) and the elevator was relatively fast. And the construction is much more solid -- you don't hear the footfalls above you like most HIs.

But, it does seem that most HI elevators are slow, but I also find this at Garden Inns, Four Points -- basically most mid-priced hotels.

Yes, yes, yes they are. Esp. HI Gaylord, MI and HI Rocky Point Tampa, FL

I don't qualify for AARP ... but by the time the elevator arrives, maybe I will :p .

HGI elevators are pretty slow also.

I agree, Hamptons have some of the slowest elevators I've ever seen......

ajf3 May 27, 2005 6:55 am

I wonder if most HI's use the same model elevator? Seems like many of the furnishments are standard across properties... I'll have to keep an eye out.

Simple economics, buying all elevators from one supplier gives you bargaining power and therefore reduce costs...same thing for furnitures...
