What's wrong with using the stairs? If I am not hauling my luggage I try and always use the stairs. Better for you and usually faster than the elevator in the 4 story or less hotels.

Edited to add and keep on topic. As an above poster noted they are hydraulic using either water or oil to make them go up and down. Not feasible to use cable elevators in such short buildings. And Hydraulic is much slower than cables and motors.

I thought I was just being too sensitive, but our favorite HI excels in every way except the flooring above your creaking whenever someone walks across the room. I don't guess there is anyway to fix this after construction is done(maybe thicker carpet padding?) I should start requesting to always be put on the top floor.
