With that - I've only ever been taken pre-immigration through Cairo, does anyone foresee any difficulties if I do it myself and just take the cheaper option of meeting them outside? Should I expect to have to give any baksheesh etc.? Appreciate your thoughts |
We did arrive late and took the cheaper offer . Well worth the money instead of bartering with the airports taxi drivers late at night.
Having been in Egypt quite often, I've had never any problems at immigration so far but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. A little Baksheesh can get you a lot in Egypt especially in Hotels. Safe travels ! |

Yeah I agree. It's really easy. I beat one of the typically stressed boomers to baggage claim who had paid for that service. Just remember to fill out the customs doc as well as the immigration doc which you might need to pickup in the hall as the crew on my flight only had one. I was in the Uber really fast, not even being first off and having everything prepared.

I find very easy to go to the VISA desk, hand out the 25 USD and obtain the sticker, normally no cues or only one or two persons.
Also agree about UBER, fast and cheap, however some of the cars are in very bad condition. London Cab Egypt is also a good alternative and while it is sensibly more expensive than UBER, it costs a fraction of what the hotel is asking. |

I've never had any problem whats:)ever at immigration in Cairo. As for the ride, Uber works fine in Cairo. An Uber ride to your hotel is very easy to arrange and will cost far, FAR less than $90, never mind $90 per person.

Any updates from recent travelers about the hotel during renovations? I don't think I'd use the pool. Unrelated, if I am Diamond (via Aspire), is it worth booking the breakfast rate? Mostly because I'd want the full breakfast and not the "continental" breakfast. But this doesn't seem to matter in some countries.
Edit: nevermind, I just saw the flight to Aswan leaves at 5:30am. I will not be even close to breakfast! |

just for future reference (since it no longer matters to you), as Diamond you would have received full breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite nice). I suggest asking the hotel if they can pack you a breakfast to take to the airport for your Aswan flight- most of the hotels at which we stayed in Egypt were set up to do this, though it wasnt always offered and I usually had to ask.

Thank you, that's good to keep in mind! I also wondered if they'd let us have breakfast on the prior day of arrival since we get in at 6am... that'd be a nice treat, but skeptical they'll allow it.

I've heard from a friend that this property is converting to a Sofitel. Note I can't find confirmation of this online, so let's consider this a rumor.

Now if this place would convert to a Grand Hyatt, you'd most certainly have my attention... khabah |

Hopefully they don't change brands until I get back to Cairo and to see all renovations they just went through. |
