A Sofitel located across the Nile from another [Sofitel El Gezirah at the southern tip of Gezira Island] would make for an odd brand choice; if the owners were to go with Accor, surely they'd have their pick of the brand litter.
Now if this place would convert to a Grand Hyatt, you'd most certainly have my attention... khabah

I just checked the rate calendar and it's open for the rest of the year so at the moment it doesn't appear they are stopping reservations for reflagging.
Hopefully they don't change brands until I get back to Cairo and to see all renovations they just went through. |

I've heard from a friend that this property is converting to a Sofitel. Note I can't find confirmation of this online, so let's consider this a rumor.

Can anyone comment to the smoke smell that a lot of people seem to complain about? Trying to decide if this is so bad that I have to go with St Regis at almost double the price. I have stayed at a few Conrads and thought quite highly of them all.
Also, any idea whether the renovation is complete? Greatly appreciate your input. |

We have stayed 3 times in the last 18 months, and the non smoking rooms don’t smell, at least the ones we had, nevertheless I wonder how it will be in another 12 months. I understand that all the rooms have been renovated by now. On the other side, are you sure that @ the St Regis they enforce the policy any harder? In our last stay I remember two guys entering in the lift smoking, crazy. |

Do Golds still get lounge access? And what upgrade could be realistically expected for a Gold during off-peak season (mid-September)?
|
Hey! Did you end up staying at the Conrad in Mid September? Would love to hear how your trip went and what treatment you got as a gold

I went to make a reservation for next year, and it looks like the reflagging rumors are accurate. As of December 31st, the hotel will be exiting the Hilton system. It's also odd how it states the spa is closed for renovations when clearly it's not gonna open before Conrad closes. So sad to see another one of Conrad's oldest locations closing, and I'm disappointed I won't get to see all the recent renovations. It sure was grand back in the day. I tried to do a google search but didn't see anything regarding what brand may be taking over. |

Hope it is not the case, have a couple of bookings for Sept/Oct and I love the place.

Wow, sad to see a legacy Conrad leaving the portfolio - and so soon after the renovation finally brought it back up to standards. Does anyone know what this will be rebranding as? Someone mentioned up thread that it would join Accor, but a quick search for next year hasn’t turned the property up.
As a Hyatt aficionado, I wish this one would rebrand as a Grand Hyatt… but one is free to dream. khabah |

khabah We don't know all the details but I'm surprised Hilton wasn't able to get ownership to keep it as a Conrad. I'll miss it, always enjoyed waking up and seeing the Nile from my room. |

Accor's gain, Hilton's loss.

Just want to close out my discussion, I wound up at the StR. It was a very good stay.
