The free breakfast, was very disappointing. Worst breakfast I've had at any Conrad!!! Not sure if its due to covid or what but I've had better at Hampton Inn so that needs serious work.
Just for clarity, when you say the 'free' breakfast was disappointing, did you mean that there is a separate breakfast for status guests which was bad, or did you mean the whole breakfast offering for everyone was bad? |

Wow, that is super disappointing. You need to put that on TripAdvisor so they start to get the message. Just for clarity, when you say the 'free' breakfast was disappointing, did you mean that there is a separate breakfast for status guests which was bad, or did you mean the whole breakfast offering for everyone was bad? Ironically I did post a TripAdvisor review on November 8 although the hotel did not respond (it was a good review minus breakfast of course). Let me clarify breakfast. When I booked my room breakfast was included in the room rate. Once we arrived I learned the breakfast was a continental breakfast, which is the same breakfast included for HH Gold and Diamond members. For HH elite, the hotel gives $22 p/p per day to cover the awful breakfast (since breakfast was in my room rate I used the $44 for lunch/dinner/drink credits). I may have been spoiled by the folks at Conrad Manila since I stayed their frequently before covid, but I stayed at Conrad Washington DC and Cartagena earlier this year and both offered full breakfast. Punta de Mita offered lots of stale breads, with some yogurt and fruit. What a joke. Punta de Mita also did not seem to do much to for their Diamond members with the exception of a room upgrade which I really appreciated. No executive lounge, no evening managers reception or wine tasting, no discount for F&B or spa treatments, not even a welcome letter. I arrived at 3:30pm to check in and my room wasn't ready, not a huge deal but I had to wait for an hour and they didn't even offer a complimentary drink at the bar. At check out, not only did they charge me for the continental breakfast that was supposed to be in my room rate but also didn't apply all my F&B credits. Not the typical "Conrad" service my wife and I are used to, but they just opened so hopefully they are still working things out. The beautiful hotel grounds, pools and beach make up for their service shortfalls but I'd hope things get ironed out. |
How did you get to the hotel? Rental car/Uber/hotel car? Did you leave the hotel during the week you were there? Where did you go and what did you use for transportation?
|
I prearranged airport transfers with Puerto Vallarta Discovery. It cost $180 r/t which I didn’t think was terrible due to the distance between PVR and Punta Mita (45-60 minutes).
We stayed at the resort most of our trip with the exception of one day. We decided to take a tour of a Puerto Vallarta, with stops also at a coffee farm and tequila distillery. We used Puerto Vallarta Discovery also for the tour. Conrad is pretty isolated with not much within walking distance, which adds to the tranquility and peaceful environment the hotel offers. |
Thanks for the report! We are going down on 12/6. I booked an ocean front king room with hopes of getting upgraded to one of the suites with the plunge pool.
We are most likely not going to leave the resort and just soak in some fresh air. Did you have a chance to try out the spa? Any other services not offered due to COVID? How was the car service? We were looking at the same company for our travel back and forth. |

We were looking at the same company for our travel back and forth. Awesome....you're gonna love the pools and beach (we also loved the waterslide). Hopefully they will upgrade you, the plunge pool room made our stay so much better. We did not try out the spa. Unfortunately only part of the spa was open, some of the exterior treatment cabanas and Temazcal weren't scheduled to open until this month. Hopefully they are fully operational. Due to Covid housekeeping is only by request, not sure if turndown is also by request as we didn't call for it. Also due to low occupancy Codex, one of the hotels beachside restaurants, was not open. Beyond that most services are operational with limited interruption. Car service was great. I contacted multiple companies and PV Discovery was not only the cheapest, but had the best customer service. All drivers wore masks and provided cold water. Highly recommend them. Look forward to hearing how your stay went. |
What's the beach front like? Is the water swimmable?

I personally enjoyed the pools more than the ocean, but everyone has their own preference. |
Yes, there are people swimming far out for exercise lapse in the ocean and people using boogie boards. It's very warm during the day compared to LA waters. Today we saw whales jumping out of the water.

Stayed here in late October - very quiet, almost creepily so (COVID related + 30% occupancy). We were upgraded as Diamonds to an ocean front plunge pool suite - it was beautiful, but lacked charm. The pools were beautiful, and we got great service hanging by the pool for a day (we only stayed a night as we had already booked 5 nights at the 4S Punta Mita 15 mins away). I'd stay here on cash rates under $350/night, anything above seems a bit much IMO...the service was great, but not 5* - part of it is that they are a new hotel team and they aren't quite up to speed with 5* service. Biggest downside for us was the lack of beach service - we saw about 15 chairs out w/ no umbrellas - very bizarre, but sounds like that's because we were there opening month.
BTW - a huge positive is their beautiful new tennis courts (and pickleball courts) on property. Again, not quite as nice as the compound in Punta Mita, but very nice courts that are free and they offer equipment as well. If you're deciding between here and WA Pedregal on a points stay, I'd say if you value swimming in the ocean and are ok w/ good to great service (and want to save money on drinks and food), book the Conrad Punta Mita. If you want impeccable service, your own plunge pool (guaranteed), expansive breakfast and a 5* experience, book WA Pedregal. With that said, WA Pedregal is incredibly more expensive than any hotel / restaurant in Punta Mita, including the StR and 4S. Pedregal is awesome, we just prefer PV/Punta Mita to Cabo. |

Have they improved their breakfast buffet any? I was pretty disappointed with the selection.
For comparison, I have stayed at Conrad Maldives: /Grand Wailea in Maui. This reminds me of a mini Wailea but you can stay closer to the beach. For us, this was perfect with the limited amount of guests at the hotel and pools to yourself. The rooms are missing something but would guess this is due to COVID. |
How was their COVID safety measures and mask adherence/enforcement?
We do not intend to leave the resort much, if at all, so hoping it is being taken seriously and we can remain as safe as can be expected. |

Hotel: Definitely book the hotel car, our driver on arrival had a plastic screen between us and him and wore a mask, the other driver on our departure just had a mask. At the hotel, they check your temp and you clean your shoes on this special rug with probably disinfectant. I didn't see any enforcement of masks, but with the limited occupancy and being outside I was quite comfortable. I would say at least 90% wore masks. We didn't leave the resort as well but felt very safe. They also checked our temp every time at breakfast. Hopefully this helps. |
