DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit {THA}

I read that this new Hilton was coming to Bangkok this year. Anyone hear when this might be opening?

thanks

onobond Jul 26, 2018 1:08 pm

Yes, made public in early March , but at that time only vaguely saying opening was due in 2018. The next bulletin, from Hilton HQ pressroom (undated), is slightly more specific, saying Q4 2018

mcgahat Jul 26, 2018 3:15 pm

This article says it will be on Soi 2, Hilton seals two deals in Thailand | TTR Weekly

Anyone know exactly how far down Soi 2 the property will be?

FlytheTail Jul 26, 2018 3:56 pm

Using some clues in the Hilton press release, it's likely this property. Just 250 m into the soi.

mcgahat Jul 26, 2018 5:46 pm

Duh....I totally missed that point about Majestic Grande Group in the article. Thanks FlytheTail.

This hotel looks about like what you would expect a Doubletree to look like. Will be Interesting to see how much renovation is done.

robnc35 Jul 27, 2018 12:43 am

not far from the Conrad

FlytheTail Sep 18, 2018 4:26 pm

The hotel now has a website, with reservations to be bookable (not yet available) for stays beginning in March, 2019.

Another reconditioned mid-tier Bangkok property. I guess it's good to have more options, but hard to get excited about this.

Jaimito Cartero Sep 19, 2018 9:09 am

I stayed at the smaller Majestic property on Sukhumvit 14-15 years ago, and was impressed with how they operated. I never got to check out their Grande property. Would probably check it out if pricing was reasonable.

eddibabyyeah Sep 24, 2018 4:47 am

Interesting that they call this Ploenchit. Soi2 is normally classed as Nana.

Not that you're wrong but it's probably a question of clientele that they want to attract or, perhaps more accurately, want to be seen to attract.

Yes, I never really considered this area as Ploenchit myself. You will see from the map posted earlier that Ploenchit Center is down the street so I guess it is not totally out of line.........

What category will this be when it opens? They do have an executive lounge and I like this location more than the one by EmQuartier.

Delectatio Jun 14, 2019 1:33 pm

The hotel can now be booked for dates in October... But no executive rooms come up, even though suites can be booked. Have they changed their mind about having an executive lounge...?

sleuth Jun 17, 2019 9:44 pm

Doubletree Bangkok Ploenchit now accepting bookings

Award pricing at 25k/night. Just booked a week in February. Hope they actually open by then. 🤔

JJeffrey Jun 18, 2019 5:56 am

Yep, mentioned in the master thread for this property that it's now open for booking.

I can't find any info on a lounge either. And it's cheaper than the other DT that doesn't have a lounge.

Also noticed that the Hilton next to the old DT is the same price as the Conrad. I haven't been to the Hilton but the Conrad is wonderful and the suites at the old DT are nice with excellent breakfasts.

Majestic Grande Sukhumvit Hotel soon to be DT is currently still open and under renovation as from tripadvisor review.

More reviews can be found here: https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Hotel...l-Bangkok.html

As it set to be DT in coming October, any idea if all the room has been renovated? The claim points seem reasonable, but it will be a shame if the room are yet to be refurbished.

Cymro Jun 20, 2019 10:06 am

Given that the deluxe rooms are listed as "renovated" and are the same size as the standard, I'd very much assume that's not the case.

For my current dates it's within 100B of the other DT and within 700B of both Hiltons.

cln Sep 7, 2019 11:11 am

There is a sale now, 1999THB++ for my dates that is more than 1000THB cheaper than any other Hilton/Marriott property. I dont like the location but for that price i'll give it a try

Alawyer Sep 9, 2019 1:09 am

Stay here or the other DT? Hmmmm

kaffir76 Sep 16, 2019 8:59 am

OPEN for bookings from Sep 27

Same here - just happened to find this hotel while originally booking for DT Sukhumvit - the price difference is about B400 & though I did like the DT Sukhumvit, I thought I'd give this new property a try in Oct.

Will post a short review after the stay.
Not a fan of the location either but I find myself going for newer build hotels / properties as the older ones tend not to get the maintenance it should, with the volume of tourists that BKK gets each year - no time for a proper refurb!

ashkale Sep 22, 2019 10:53 pm

In BKK for a day early October and booked for 19k points- will share a review post stay!

FFlash Sep 27, 2019 9:36 pm

Got curious about this. Booked early October, cheap 2500 THB.
any lounge? Cannot find info...

SK AAR Sep 30, 2019 5:50 am

When quoting rates please keep in mind to state if it is "net" (including 10% service charge and 7.7% tax) og "++" rates (excl. serv. charge and tax) - thanks.

Construction quality in many of the new builds is rather poor. Most of the new hotels, including PH, W/A, and Rosewood, have single pane windows which means traffic noise (and apparently water intrusion at W/A).

ashkale Oct 5, 2019 4:12 pm

Just completed a nights stay here, the hotel isnt fully ready yet-lots of floors still under construction or renovation. No lounge but a happy hour with very limited drinks(6-7pm). Soso breakfast with lot of food items not heated properly, overall still needs a few months to fullh operate in a very competitive hotel landscape. The staff is very green too. Room was comfortable but the temp is set at 21 and can get warm at nights. The bathroom has the usual drainage problems in the shower areas. Its a few minutes not so easy walk to either nana or ploenchit bts. Other similar priced options might work better for the time being.

deadinabsentia Oct 7, 2019 9:53 am

Stayed a few days ago. AirCon broke, no cold air till fixed 3am. MANY bugs in the room. Loud construction noise. Mentioned the above at check out.. manager didn’t care.. Hilton corporate ended up comping the night.

Ii will never ever consider this hotel again

Jaimito Cartero Oct 7, 2019 1:35 pm

Stuff like this is why I’m often reluctant to stay the first few months after a refurb.

FFlash Oct 7, 2019 7:49 pm

Just finished my stay and I have nothing to complain as per above posts.
Had no breakie, early checkout. I could checkin 9am, got a room on 23rd floor (highest 25). Aircon was noisy. Renovated =”premium” room it was, nothing fancy.
Decent gym, small but okayish pool.
Okay for the net 2600thb price, close enough to Nana and Ploenchit by foot.
Will return with this price.

remymartin Oct 23, 2019 11:50 am

I did a couple of stays here. Didn't try breakfast but needed late checkout. The pool is small but looks decent. When the pool bar opens in December it might be cool for an hour or two. Aircon was noisy, as FFlash mentions above. The view in the first room was very good.
Many of the key staff (the ones that wanted to interact) are training the current staff with Hilton culture. They are from Conrad Samui, Hilton Pattaya and many of them are leaving this week. The real test will be when they're gone but I'll definitely be back.

Thought we would try the new Doubletree Ploenchit for the first night of our wedding anniversary holiday to Thailand.
Manager kindly upgraded us to the new Terrace Suite.
Apparently we are the first guests to ever stay in it as it was only finished today and very nice and cosy it is too.
Suite still smells very new and fresh and I am very impressed.
We only checked in an hour ago and room seems very quiet, we received a warm welcome and the usual Doubletree cookies
Below are some photos for any Flyertalkers that are interested.

Very nice looking. Was the terrace enclosed with windows? The only think that would annoy me, is no proper coffee machine :D

PaulH1 Oct 30, 2019 1:18 am

No Terrace was accessed by patio doors from bedroom only ( not lounge )
Terrace was open

I wanted to try a new property and I did. Encountered several issues and I would NOT return to this property.
  • Checked in around 2.45 PM and a room (King size bed) was not ready. I asked for another room that was available. Eventually, I got a room on the 23rd floor with a double bed room (renovated).
  • I was profusely sweating as I walked from BTS Ploenchit station. Unlikely other Bangkok 4*+, no cold towels or drink were presented. I asked for some towels and the check-in crew were frantically collecting and handed me with toilet hand wash paper towers. Apologized profusely.
  • Wifi internet connection very first time or two was extremely slow.
  • Elevators were hot and humid as if you are walking to the outside. no AC. Elevator exterior to the pool/fitness area was not complete, i.e., holes around the panels.
  • Biggest complaints: Room has a motion detector. When you are sleep with no motion, AC goes off to automatic setting to 27C or so. When you return from day's activities, the room was extremeley and unpleasantly warm. Called for service twice and I was told that they could not manually fix to lower the temp to keep it low to 22C due to a motion sensor.
  • simliarly, hallway is warm-to-hot as well. AC is not properly equipped across the hallways, elevators, and rooms.
  • Did not try breakfast, bars, so I can't contribute.
  • Stay Points are missing. Put in a request to Hilton.com last Sunday and so far, no resolution.

Penguinmoon Nov 6, 2019 10:27 pm

I really did want to like this property! Stayed here last weekend. Might give it a couple of months and try one more time.

Booked a one bedroom terrace suite. Not offered an upgrade at checkin, the only thing higher would have been two bedroom. Not expected, so didn't bother me.
This place is not ready for guests. The paint/chemical smell is horrible. If you have any respiratory illness, avoid for awhile.
The room description on the website states that the room I reserved came with one full bath, and one guest. After two days in the room, I gave up looking for the guest bath. They hid it well.
Staff was clueless, not able to answer basic questions.
Construction noted to start at 7:45 am, and I could still hear banging at 9:45 pm. Calls to front desk only warranted, they stop at 5 pm. Hummm. It's 9:45. But they stop at 5:00.
One egg guy on duty from breakfast on Sat and Sun morning, yes, it took awhile.
Two elevators for the whole property?
Crappy AC system. Motion sensored. Woke up twice at night sweating.

I did love the room and terrace. Well thought out/designed/furnished. The terrace was huge. It was a nicer weekend (not that hot) so spent a fair amount of time out there to escape noise in the room.

gav0106 Dec 24, 2019 7:43 pm

Morning all. Just at this property.

Overall actually pleasantly surprised.

Checked in online. Upgraded from the basic level room to King Premium Room. Used online check-in for room 2413. Quiet room, corner with just service area beside it, so no neighbours.

Arrived around 14:00. Room not ready was offered another one, but this would be connecting room, so decided to wait, only 20 minutes.

Lifts are small and hot as noted. Really not enough for such a large property. Also, staff use these lifts to get to staff area on 5th floor.

Room is good size, with nice sofa area and bathroom well laid out. Issue with bathroom is that the shower does not drain, flooding the bathroom, have reported this. Only basic coffee, no Nespresso etc.
Had no issues with air-con. I had on 26oC at night and worked fine. I turned it off sometimes during day when in the room.

Biggest issue pool is closed, and gym closed at 1830. This was not informed at check in, and I only found out when I went to use the pool.

Happy hour for Diamond and Gold 1800-1900, wine, beer, 3 cocktails and soft drinks.

Breakfast good spread.

Staff all very friendly.

For the price I would use again.

Pool update - closed for next 2-3 months

cln Dec 25, 2019 5:41 am

Beware.... Worst hilton branded property ever... Unless u book/get an upgrade to a renovated room.

Pool closed as he reported. Was given a room on floor 8. The place looks like a dump.

Wanted to check out immediately....
Staff is nice and literally begged me to stay.
I wouldn't risk to book a lower category room here. No information about the closed pool on the website. Safety box not wall mounted even in the renovated rooms.... Had several bookings but cancelled all. Maybe I'll give it a try in one year again. Staff is ashamed by the conditon.

Wow Cln that is truly awful. How can they even think about selling rooms in that state. It is night and day compared to the renovated areas!
