Possible to "reset" Internet connection?
I noticed this with many of the Hilton family hotels. (lately, Hampton Inn, Homewood and Double Tree)
When you check in, they give you an internet code to use. So I log in, and enter the code, so now I have connection for 24 hours. But if I do it at 7pm, then the next night around 7pm, in the middle of working from the hotel (or just in the middle of an email) the connection will die (since it has been 24 hours). Is there a way for me to force the connection to reset when I get back to the hotel that night, so I can restart the connection (start from scratch/enter the code) so it will not expire that night? Basically, when I get back to the hotel that night, click "log out" then log back in, so the counter starts over again. Thanks |
These codes are for unlimited access for a 24 hour period. Not sure how you can stop time.

Or just bill it to your room and they will take it off when you check out.

My current setup is where I have to enter my lastname and room# every 24 hours and I would love a way to keep the internet connection for a few days at a shot since I'm living out of a hotel. |
I think this is a function of the software/hardware the hotel is using. For example at one hotel it gives options for 24 hrs, 3 days or 7 days. As internet is free for me I usually choose the 3 or 7 day choice. This way I don't get booted in the middle of a session.

Thats why I would love a way to "reset" the connection, so I have to relogin. This way I know I wont get booted while in the middle of something. I prefer logging in (and entering the code) everytime I boot up/log into their network. Its usually only once a night anyway, but this prevents getting booted in the middle of something. |

It's a 24 hour timer. When the time is up, you have to log in again. I don't mind as I know when it's coming. Just close your browser and login again when it happens. Only happens once a day.

I spent well over 200 nights in mostly Hampton Inn last year. Once a day times 200+ times is pretty darn annoying. I know it's coming, but usually don't pay attention to the exact time I log in and remember it 24 hours later. They really should either give a code for the duration or give a means to refresh the timer.
I actually prefer hotels where I have to re-log-in every time I connect, even if I've "slept" my laptop several times during the day, than to have an unavoidable and unreschedulable disconnect like this. Just how hard would it be to add a log-out button? I would think the problem is simply that the people who decided how this should work don't know that this causing problems for customers. How do we reach the people in charge of this? (It works the same way at many Hamptons, so it has nothing to do with a particular hotel, but I don't know who exactly it does have to do with.) (One thing I do know: It isn't reaching the people in charge if you just mention it on a survey. The survey responses to go to the right people, in this case at least.) |
Wow, I thought it was just me that is driven to insanity by this. I am taking college classes and I have to take timed tests and quizzes from the hotel. If it logs me out during the test, the software at school assumes I have logged off and closes out the test. I have to contact the professor to reset the test. So, I just wait until I have entered the code.
What if you go into the browser and clear the cookies? I am not at a Hampton this week so I can not test. |

Nope. At least it didnt work in a HS property...
Good news though - I just checked in a Doubletree Suites in Houston and got the complimentary internet, and the time remaining is 4 days 23 hrs 59 min! So, someone is listening to you and just not implementing it to the Hamptons just yet? |

So far I've noticed this at - Hampton Inns, Homewood Suites, Doubletrees |
