Phony / false / not really Hilton and Hilton properties

When I was in Adelaide, South Australia, last, I stayed at the Hilton Adelaide hotel, at 233 Victoria Square. Out on a walk I found...

The Hilton Hotel Adelaide, not a Hilton property, but rather a public house (pub) and restaurant (and gaming) situated at the corner South Road & Sir Donald Bradman Drive in the Adelaide suburb of Hilton. <link> You can't actually stay there...

I know I have seen other "Hiltons" that are not at all Hiltons, like the "Bali Hilton" - actually Ayodya Resort Bali in Nusa Dua that is still sold by the less than scrupulous as the "Bali Hilton", and which still retains the www.balihilton.com/ website.

And there is the "Paucar Vera Hilton Magin" in Mariscal Ramon Castilla, in Lima.

What other "Hilton" properties exist out there, under whatever name, Ersatz Doubletree, Notrili Conrad, etc. can we list here?

one of my all time favorites

the Ben Lomond CA Hylton

Now a quality inn, but we stayed there when it was the Hylton.

I know it has been discussed on other threads here, but The Hilton Atlantic City uses the Hilton logo but is not a Hilton property and does not participate in the Hilton HHonors program.

In Townsend, TN there used to be a Hilltop Hilton. Most certainly; *NOT* a
Hilton hotel.

I love the hotel's name - "Ben Lomond Hylton Motel Econo Lodge of Ben Lomond". I wonder if Pharris Hylton ever stays there? ;)

How does it get away with it?

I must wonder if it's some anomaly of brand licensing laws in Australia. Fifteen (or so) years ago I stayed at the Sheraton Melbourne and got the 'Oh, no. You're mistaking us for an ITT Sheraton.'

Well, the Hilton Hotel (the restaurant, pub et al) has probably been around in Hilton S.A., a lot longer than the Hilton hotel chain has:

But there are others than do not have that cover.

Is it worth the confusion and resulting devaluation of its brand for Hilton to license its name to non-chain properties? Can't imagine that McDonalds would do that.

Hilton Khartoum (Sudan) seems not to be a Hilton property anymore.

You are absolutely right.. But unfortunately it is what it is.

There used to be a property on Central Expressway in Dallas that was a Hilton. Their franchise ended, but to save money they renamed the property the "Hiltop" so they would only have to change one letter on the name.

That was the first property I thought of. Memories.
