I would recommend hiring a car. Its cheap and easy to drive there. Helps as the resort is in the middle of no where.

Hire a Car for the Scary Drive ;)
We hired car for the nights we were there, allowed us much better freedom to go and explore and was good value compared to taxi cost there and back
Beware the drive up the hill to the Hotel, it was fun

I received an email from the hotel and they're quoting 1,500 baht one way!
"Could you please advise us your arrival detail, also please kindly advise us in case you would like hotel to arrange a transfer pick up from airport at THB 1,500 net per car per way.
Please contact us if we can provide further information.
We look forward to welcoming you to Conrad Koh Samui soon."

Resort offers transfers as follows; One way is 2950++ & return is 5000++.
A common taxi will cost around 1000 one way, 1500 one way for a van or approx 3500 for a limo one way.
Mr. Samui's price is 2200 return.

Are you sure you had enough points for the entire duration of the stay you were looking at? Say, if you wanted to stay 10 nights you'd need 640K, and it wouldn't show up unless there was at least that much in your account.

Did anyone feel like they were missing out on by being so far away at The Koh Samui?

I didnt. But i knew going in we would be far. We were headed to bangkok for a few days anyway so for the koh samui portion of the trip we decided just to enjoy resort life. And there is plenty to keep you busy. Highly recommend the jet ski tour. Its expensive but worth it.

I thought I was but then I went to Chaweng and saw how much it had changed since I was last there 7-8 years back and didn't want to come back again. Its like a Bangkok street market now.

Definitely want to get back there - hopefully with better weather since it rained on us 3.5 days straight in Nov 2014.
We didn't feel isolated, but we had rented a car so even with lack of road signage and very wet conditions, we could get somewhere else on the island given enough time.
