Arrow [ARCHIVE to 2014] Tropicana Las Vegas - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel {US-NV}

Interesting article speculating that Hilton's Doubletree brand may take over the hotel operations of the troubled Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.

Sounds great to me. Stayed many times at the Hilton on Paradise but always wanted to be on the strip. This is great move by Doubletree. Hope it happens... and soon.

I would be real happy at that! I could walk across the street to Mandalay Bay to my favorite bar, spend a few hours there, then crawl back across the street to the Trop. Easier than trying to do that staying at another Hilton family property :-)

I would love to see this happen. I have never stayed at the Trop but have gambled there and it has been given a recent facelift in the casino at least, and I heard the pool is nice.

I don't mind the HGVC, but it would be nice to stay at a property again that includes breakfast. If this happens I hope they treat diamond guests as good as the LVH did

Agreed, it would be great to have a Doubletree on this side of the strip. It would certainly attract my (European) business.

I enjoyed the Flamingo when it still was a Hilton, but I liked the EM even more. Non gambling, huge terrace, happy hour and very friendly. That was some years ago, so I do not know if things have changed.

A DT on the Strip would be a nice addition.

Just did a search for Las Vegas rooms and the Tropicana comes up as a doubletree. Says they will be taking reservations starting in December. Great additional to the brand. I assume they will be a Cat 7 but still nice to have a hilton option right on the strip.

That may or may not be the case, but rates will have to be competitive, may make more sense to pay for a room.

I tried booking a room for late December and they aren't taking any reservations right now.

Hopefully their rates will stay consistant with Trops current rates. I am really hoping the free breakfast will be a buffet and they will treat their diamonds and golds as good as the LVH did and there will be a lounge for diamonds like at the LVH.

Trop has a decent casino and close to the airport.

Agreed. The LVH had a great Dia experience despite the condition of the hotel.

Yeah, the LVH is a dump. But when you considered the perks like the two buffets every day, unlimited bottled water and diet coke, the $10 a day voucher for skipping housekeeping, etc the stay ended up being almost free and the pool was nice. I liked having the $ to spend on other things in vegas. I have no problems using the monorail either and my favorite casino was O'Sheas (now I was REALLY sad to see them close) so it was very easy to get there on the monorail from the LVH.

What I really miss where the package deals I got. They didn't earn HH points, but for something like $150 with tax you got three nights, $10 gambling chip, two free drink chits (which I was able to use on premium drinks at the pool) and two buffets. Using the two buffet vouchers at other meals, the free breakfast buffet and the the $10 food credit for skipping housekeeping made for a cheap weekend trip. And a lot of times I would do a friday arrival and sunday redeye home so it was great having the room all day on Sunday. I hope tropicana has deals like this.

Have some people been at the Tropicana recently to judge the physical condition of the property? I've been at a few recent Doubletree conversions and the refurb budgets/ambitions just had not been adequate.

I'd be surprised if this was true. The DT brand will take anyone willing to pay the franchise fee.
