corvette condition
If anyone recently rented a Corvette ZHZ at LAX (or other locations) could they give a brief condition report. I have the possibility to rent one of these for a week at a decent price at LAX and I'm considering it. However, I don't want a ZHZ that is worn out completely. I have a feeling that a lot of people renting these cars just want to do donuts. As an altenative, Avis also has the Corvettes, though a cab and I don't fancy that.
Thanks for comments! |
anyone? Is it possible to drop by Hertz at LAX and just look at the condition? I'll be heading out there today anyway to rent another car for a ski vacation (but through Dollar). I somehow have a feeling that it will be difficult to just walk around and look at the cars (if your not renting).

I don't think you'd have any trouble wandering the lot checking out cars. The hard part would be finding someone to help if you have any questions.

Convertible Corvette
I rented one but it was a convertible Corvette ~ just brand new with a few miles on it; although this was about 6 months ago. It was the only one in my space immediately when entering the covered rental building and I didn't see the other corvettes. I suggest that you just call them and ask them at the counter. The guys are really nice at LAX whenever I talk with them; if I remember correctly they said that they are not more than 12 months on their rental lot.

I rented one in MIA. It was a great shape aside from a few scratches in the removable top. It made for a fun week in the Keys!

Okey. Thanks for the comments. I'll give them a call, but don't really think they would be completely honest and tell me up straight that they are worn down (if they are) :) After all, they are interested in sales and don't want me to go to Avis and rent one of their regular convertibles. If others have been in one of the Corvettes at LAX recently, I really appreciate feedbacks of the conditions.

Hi, I had one from LAX last august - a convertible with 6 000 miles - the car was in great shape !

I managed to reserve and rent a Corvette through my favorite Hertz Local Edition with #1 points a couple weeks ago. Corvettes are so very nice!
And they are crazy expensive to rent, if you were using $$$. For that reason, I think renters generally treat these rental cars nicer than they would the average Ford Taurus. And of course you will need to go over the car very carefully to look for scratches or dings before you leave the lot. My car was pretty much in perfect shape, despite having between 10 & 20 K miles on it. One last thing to note: my own Corvette rental had a mileage limit (which I believe most prestige rentals come with?) I remember seeing "200 miles" on the "daily rate" on the contract and almost had a heart attack 'cause I had gone over it by about 150 miles.... but turns out my rental was 200 miles per day, so that was a relief. I've seen other rates quoted that came out at 50 or 100 miles per day. The overage rates aren't too bad either... 30 cents a mile X 100 miles = $30. |
Most prestige rentals I've taken out have had unlimited miles on it.

Rented a ZHZ in Maui a while ago. Car had ~8000 miles on it, and it had just been detailed. It was in perfect condition both in and out - could have just as well been new....

Is there a special way to getting the Corvette to price up on the Hertz website?
For a Las Vegas rental in early September it is showing no availability. However for some Prestige the website says outright 'sold out' which is fine. However the Corvette has the option to 'get quote' however then some 'D' error code appears in red at the top of the screen. Does the inventory only open up nearer the time or is it just a case of trying every week? Thanks! |

I talked to someone at Hertz when I returned and they said they were getting their new fleet in Canada on April 1st. I am not sure when the fleets are being replaced in the USA but suspect it is around the same time. Hopefully Hertz will add some new Corvette convertibles to the fleet soon so we can start to book them. I have been checking almost every day for my next trip for availability. Some locations still have the 2008 Corvette ZHZ which is a hardtop in the system. That makes sense as these cars were added to the fleet in June of 2008. Where as some of the 2008 convertibles were added to the fleet in late 2007. |

The couple they had a Thrifty several months ago looked to be in good shape. I had a normal car and the Vette was still parked in the same space one week later, so my guess they don;t have many renters for these cars.
Why rent -- when you can own one (owner of a 2005 C6 Vert):D |
We rented a pair of ZHZ in Orlando last month. One had 18,000 miles and was pretty beat up, the other had about 20,000 miles, but was much better. Overall I would never own one, interior quality is pretty bad, but I like renting them whenever possible. We found a very good rate, but you can also get them for 3,000 pts for a 4 day weekend.
